Either someone's pressed the wrong button somewhere or the person who took that picture is a triallist... and shouldn't really be taking pictures of pre-release software! ;)

But since it's out there, what do you think?

They seem to like it anyway. I preferred the blue CR3 Langley (no idea what the current one is) colourscheme but suppose the new one is OK.

Doesn't look like the epg is going to be bright red or pink then woo!

Is it me, or does it look a little like the BT Vision software?

From that picture, it looks a lot smarter than what we've got now in our patch - lovely and simple design - with all options on one "home" screen rather than having to use different drop downs or sub menus.:tu:

Now all they need is to improve the TV Interactive content a bit!:D

Isn't there any way that our existing CR3.3.software could have its colours changed to these but retaining the now temporary "ntl" branding?

Would love to. :)

Can't. :(

This BT Vision thread at Digital Spy:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...=481120&page=4

....contained a link which did contain loads of pictures of the EPG and menus, but the pictures are no longer online.

But the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture in this thread was "NTL have ripped off BT Vision!" :D From what I can remember, the colour scheme on BT Vision's software is identical - which is no bad thing, and a million miles better than the 'Virgin Red' look which I suspected would be thrown at us.

Question is, does it still take half an hour to change the channel like the current slow arsed software?

...:) That's the question to ask and one I would dearly like to know the answer to as well, assuming that screenshot is genuine.

Having never seen any box take 30 Min's to change channel in all the time i have dealt with STB's i would have to say NO. Now if yours takes 30 Min's to change channel that would have to be a world record, Or would you happen to be a master at exaggeration :D

On an old Pace 1000 box, it can seem like an eternity to change ;)

Indeed it might but 30 Min's come on :). There used to be a member of this forum from the Wirrall who was a master at Exaggeration and at stating complete crap.

Now that's exaggeration!

Maybe 29 mins then?

Amazing what you can see if you don't have ntl tinted glasses.

30 mins to change the channel. What a joke of system.

When are we gonna get one that changes as quickly as the sky version did from day one? is it really that difficult? how hard can it be?

Thanks for that well informed and needed contribution to this debate gary. Its such a shame that your broadband is not put to better use than to continually spout bull**** and crap. One day you will make a post on this forum that will be read with interest instead of hilarity. That day is a long way off

Personally I don't find Sky particularly quick either - granted its faster than the TVDrive and the TW box I have.

They should all aim for Freeview speeds :)

sorry for having an opinion. thought i saw the word 'forum' somewhere? also thought that personal attacks weren't allowed here? or is it ok for some but not others?

I don't understand how it went from being ok in the last version to being screwed up in the current form? i thought they had testers to check this sort of thing? you've only got to change channel once and you realise it's wrong.

There is opinion and then there is out and out bull****. I have never in my time working for cable seen a settop box take 30 minutes to change channels. How can you expect to be taken seriously if you come out with crap like you have posted. It does not help anyone here and just shows you up for what you are.

The crux of the matter is that you have been on this forum before. You came out with crap like that before as well. Because your area has been re segmented it has made it possible to sign up here again as your ubr address will have changed, this has allowed you to login as another user GARY. Sorry but your posting style just gives you away, I have never seen anyone else post the way you do since a certain GARYPARSONS was banned.

Now if i get shouted at for this post fine. But someone has to let others know that you have been here before as another user i am fairly certain of that.

Re: EX C&W have virgin firmware on there STB

The problem I think with Liberate (which is what NTL/TW use) is the interface is actually powered by some kind of web browser, and all written in HTML and Javascript. This is TOTAL overkill for an STB which won't be running at more than 50MHz.

The Sky system (based on opentv I believe) is fast because it is all native code. The only delay I have seen in channel changing in Sky is mainly due to this having to re-tune the LNB to a different signal, and wait for a stream lock to be aquired. On cable, this doesn't happen - the delay is mostly the software "getting around to it".

Horizon 10-12-2006 11:42

Re: EX C&W have virgin firmware on there STB

On my Sky box, channel changing takes a fraction of a second. On my ntl box it takes three. Speaks for itself really.

I have seen older pace box's take up to 5 seconds to change.

Nice to see realistic posts instead of Out and out bull****.
So not 30 Min's then like some say

mine has taken upto 6 secs at times.

Its like the box freezes, and then does all ur commands at once, and becoz u pressed the "channel up" button more times than u should have, u end up on the wrong channel, [which could end up being embarrasing;)]

Actually it's not bull****, I've had my lovely Samsung box freeze while changing channels for up to 10 mins a couple of times in the last few months, I'm not sure how long it would have stayed like that because after 10 mins I rebooted the thing to get control back. Am I a liar as well then?

The difference between the 2 is that the pace slowness is down to the STB not having enough raw power to handle the software.

The Samsung freezes are due to a software glitch. Usually pressing the remote standby button and pressing the channel up/down buttons kicks it back into life.

my box worked ok, tv wise, til the last (see if we can make them pay THREE times for a terrestrial program) Vod update. So i'm guessing it's the shoddy software as many others have the same problem and many more. Thank god I don't use the interactive as that's horrific.

10 PRINT "This is a better program than the NTL software"
20 GOTO 10
