Coventry? December? GodDamnIt!!! That means I've gotta get my Xmas bonus now for a HDTV set!!! ;)

Any news on what actual HD content were gonna have for the TVDrive when us NTL'ers get it? Any details to get us all drooling?

Testing is already in progress in Teeside & Glasgow, but its a staff test/trial to work out all the bugs.

I got the release dates of MEG (NTL Intranet).

Testers I'll get some more details, might need a few account details and I'll submit you guys. Can't do loads though, work will get suspicious.

Customers in Glasgow and Teesside areas can now order TVDrive. Just call Customer Care on 150 from an ntl phone or 0845 454 0000 (or Sales on 0800 183 1234)!

Sorry, but ntl customers outside the Glasgow and Teesside areas cannot currently order TVDrive. TVDrive should be coming to the remaining ex-ntl areas over the next few months.

What a surprise, London is left to rot yet again.

I guess that the PVR is next years 'Coming Soon' (oh, how I've missed that one since Interactive was released!) for those of us who live in the capital city.

I wonder if we'll get it before or after VOD (which incidentally, we're going to have by Summer 2006 according to NTL's highly accurate and bang up to date web site).

Well done NTL, you really know how to make us all feel wanted.

You're not the only one. I live a few miles (literally - I can walk it in 45 minutes) to the Bromley super head end, and we don't get it until next year..

I don't see Hertfordshire on the list either - hubby keeps on nagging to get Sky + but I'm trying to talk him into staying with ntl as the nex box is "coming soon"

Re: PVR release dates

I hear Glasgow and Teeside customers will be able to get the TV Drive from the 14th Nov, but only on a limited trial full rollout will be early 07.

vodcoke 06-11-2006 13:01

Re: PVR release dates

Just spoke to CS told me that release date for Glasgow and Teeside is 14/11/2006 and they can pre order now and Belfast release date is December 14th and they can preorder at the start of December :)

Rankrotten 06-11-2006 13:11

Re: PVR release dates

Next Tuesday 14th seems to be the official launch date in ntl's Glasgow (and Teeside) areas but they are taking pre-orders from this week. £75 to replace existing STB or £5 per month to relocate existing box upstairs - with £10 subscription in addition to family pack.

Andy C 06-11-2006 13:42

Re: PVR release dates

Hmm, that's the date I was given for Guildford. I guess i wont hold my breath if it's only being rolled out in the trial areas on the 14th!

garry_boy 06-11-2006 14:25

Re: PVR release dates

Live in Glasgow and just tried calling sales and customer care, told not taking any kind of orders for a couple of weeks at least.....but Glasgow is apparantly first (training happening now).

Stephen 06-11-2006 15:55

Re: PVR release dates

The plan is to roll out to a certain amount of customers then have a full release after a month or so.

It is still being tested by staff at the moment to make sure there aren't any problems with the box and new software.

Rankrotten 06-11-2006 16:06

Re: PVR release dates

On the Telewest forums they are awaiting a new "code drop" for the TV Drive. Will the ntl TV Drives come with the new software preinstalled or will they eventually be updated along with the units on the Telewest cable network later this month?

Stephen 06-11-2006 16:29

Re: PVR release dates

Ntl's Version of the TV Drive has a new software code which is an altered version of the Telewest epg. This is what is being tested on the Box to iron out all the kinks.

The lastest version should be on the TV Drives when they are installed or will be downloaded once the box has been installed.

That's quite correct sir, i spoke to some guy on the phone about getting this installed and he said he needs to get his supervisior because it wouldn't let him add the thing, so 3 mins later he said the system hasn't been upgraded so that's why they can't add the install.

So i don't see how people are getting this installed on friday when they said it wont be installed till after the 14th.

PS
I've to get a callback tomorrow to book my tv drive. :D

Does anyone have the prices if you currently have two STB, and want to change one of them for a PVR? Currently paying £15 per month for the additional STB, but my understanding is that if you currently have one STB, and add a PVR, then its £10 for the PVR and £5 for the additional STB.

Dont think I will be bothering with one of these things, I have a discount where I get the 2nd box free anyway, so if I change to the TV drive I will lose that discount and end up paying for the TV drive and the 2nd box as well, plus we dont need 3 boxes in the house!

He calls work management who confirm to him they havent gota launch date for the TVDRIVE in the area yet.

I call NTHell CS who denie an order was ever placed and that an engineer is coming today :nono: (introduce Installer to Customer service guy... yadda yadda yadda OH ... !)
CS accept engineer is stood in my lounge after some debate CS decide that sales have ordered TVDRIVE in error and confirm it WILL NOT be available till December at the earliest and suggest engineer leaves for next job as its wasting his time !!!! (What about mine ?????).

Vent my anger at Wythenshaw CS Manager who offers to transfer me to disconnections if im so upset.:bigcry:

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I guess this will probably be the case for me then as well when they come out on the 18th. One thing though. As I am not a tv customer, i will get the tv drive for free. If they bring me a normal stb and i have it installed (as I really want to watch lost when it starts THAT NIGHT, do you think they will free upgrade me to tv drive when its available since thats what i originally asked for?

Steve, whereabouts are you? Pilot installs are due to start in the Glasgow and Teesside regions only on November 14th. Anyone outside those areas, or who has an install date before then is likely to be disappointed I'm afraid.

Re: PVR release dates

Just spoken to Sales regarding the PVR.

I live in Luton and they have confirmed the 'go live' here as 12th December.

Spoke to a very informative chap who was more than helpful. I have two boxes currently (paying £15 for the second one) and he confirmed that when I replace one box with a PVR there will be no additional charges and no installation charge as I subscribe to the Family Pack.

He also confirmed that the PVR will be able to record two channels at once whilst watching a third. He also said that they will be adding some HD content at no extra cost over the coming months (things like the History channel to begin with).

He then added me to his 'list' and confirmed that he will personally call me back to arrange an installation date. There were already eight people on his list but they are obviously expecting a huge response when the info hits the whole customer base.

Fingers crossed .....

Just spoke to CS they have taken my details to call me when the release date is for Belfast. I asked her that I had a second box already, she confirmed that they will install the PVR and leave the second box where it is, the cost is £10 per month for the PVR/HD and £5 for the second box.(free installation), so really not costing anymore than I'm paying at the moment:D :D .... at last some good news from NTL :tu:

Glad i stumbled on this forum thought PVR was a long way off.
Phoned NTL CS number to enquire about roll out date and was told
they had no info at the moment and to wait for mailshot. Decided
to call Sales and as a result have secured an engineer to fit on
Thursday after Nov 9th . No installation fee and as I have already have
a second box no increase in monthly rate.

Queries on PVR

I have 3:

1) I currently use RF to send my STB output around the house (coax). Does the PVR box have an RF output?

2) Does the PVR also act as a cable modem, or would I need to move to a standalone cable modem?

3) Does the PVR use the same remote codes as the samsung stb? Ie if they were in the same cabinet, would the one remote try to change channels on both boxes (which would be a right pain) - I need to leave both boxes in the living room to take advantage of my coax (i'd rather not have to go out & buy a digisender after putting in all that coax)

Thanks

NTL Rep3) BBCHD, ITVHD, CH4HD, History CHannel.

Yes, although if you have HDMI enabled, RF will be disabled

TVDrive customers will use a standalone cable modem.

For many functions, the remote codes are the same - the number buttons, for example. If you're keeping your existing box when having TVDrive installed, the installer will run cable to wherever you want the 2nd box located.

Customers in ex-ntl regions will not see HD content right now. It will be introduced over the next few months but I don't have an exact date.

I know but the line up of channels was correct. I mean on Demand still doesn't work:D .

Any hints as to when it can be expected in Andover/Salisbury?

Would be nice if it is this side of Christmas as it will solve no end of arguments about Christmas telly viewing :)

Is this gonna be like that slow arsed (and still on going) update for VOD? No one ever mentions my area and it's always the last on the list. Wirral.

Just got my partner to call sales regarding TVDRIVE in Stevenage and they said call back on 14th December as that is when it is availible in the area. Can't wait!! Sounds like the best Crimbo present out there!!

My Samsung TV will be a year old and has been long waitng for a HDTV feed other than XBOX 360 and an upscaled DVD player.

Please ntl:Telewest/Virgin Media don't let the side down.

Spoke to cs and sales at NTL on Tuesday and they confirmed that the Herts area covered by Luton is going live with PVR on 12th December and to call back at end of November to get added to list for FREE installation, providing existing STB is retained in another room, for just £10 per month extra.

Though I suppose it would be fairly motivational.

Indeed, but this means if I want to use HDMI in my living room, and I also want to distribute my RF from the living room (my current RF distribution source) to the 4 other TVs in my house, that's a problem.

Thanks very much for the answers though - it's given me some stuff to think about.

It does tie you into a new 12 month contract on the Telewest TVDrive so it's bound to be the same for NTL

It is also worth noting that you are tied to 12 months for the second STB if you opt for the £5 deal:

The £5 additional box must be kept for a mimium of 12 months in addition to your other services.

Re: PVR release dates

Damn! I'm looking to move house April/May time of next year and was going to go with Freeview in the new place. We don't have an aerial at the current house, so looks like i'm stuck with paying £75 install fee then £10 base pack per month + £15 per month on top to rent the Tvdrive....and I'll be stuck in a 12 month contract

All this just because i want to ditch the video recorder and record via a PVR drive! In fact it looks like it will be far cheaper to just get an aerial installed for freeview, ditch NTL and buy a nice Humax pvr9200t for 180 quid.

Well, ntl sales are now saying December 12th for the Guildford area (I'm GU14) and said I could book an install for the 13th. I hope it doesn't slip as it would be nice to have it installed in time for Christmas.

I'm guessing TiVo could use the live tuner on the TVDrive for remote recordings when not at home? :)

Get NTL to relocate the Samsung when they install the TVDrive. (This will be standard practice for people keeping their existing box)

Quadplay, if we get the PVR and we keep the Samsung for another room will they use the Samsung for broadband or will they also provide a standalone modem?
Thanks,

If you already use the Samsung for broadband, it would make sense I suppose to keep using it - but I haven't seen any official guidance on this scenario, so the honest answer is I don't know!

Thanks, I guess I was worrying more about re-wiring but I suppose they will be doing some anyway, so a bit of extra for the broadband is nothing compared to having to supply a modem.

Don't suppose you know when the PVR will be available in HP8 by any chance? ;)

Thanks for you help!
Michelle

Just tried to order it and the system is down.

You managed far better than I did. I called NTL sales on Wednesday and spoke to a girl who advised she had the training and that sometime in December it would be available , wasn't able to book it for me. Seems I like the touch to get someone to do a booking for me if indeed they are meant too? I live in GU16, perhaps thats the difference.

Anyway will try again and see if 3rd time lucky makes any difference..

And ofcourse people are going to hang around waiting while sky HD comes down in price :erm:
When is warrington/runcorn area to get them?
No need to hold my breath?

If Sky HD comes down in price then NTL will have to come down in price too so you will not have lost anything!

On another forum I belong (which is for users of the SW package they have) there has been an in joke for the release of the SW for Pocket PC users (iPAQ etc) which for over 18 months has been its being released on monday.

I myself wont be bothering with a PVR STB as I have a digital box connected to a £450 sony HDD.DVD-/+R, and if NTL do merge with ITV I'm going to think about cancelling my entire NTL package (Phone/STB/BB which doesn't get above 5Mb), As I cannot stand ITV anymore after the cr@p F1 covearge/adverts

I feel the same after the demise of Bernievision but I digress...

Install moved from today to next Tuesday along with the rest of the Glasgow early adopters.

I though the install dates would be changed. Still a few things they are trying to sort out in Glasgow.

I have had the box a month and VOD only started working last night.

Rang CS for my own personal amusement. Just to check weather my previous experience of CS being half informed/non informed/hey let's just make **** up morons had changed.

Call 1.
Yeah TV Drive will be available in your area before 21st December. No extra charge. No install charge. (I have only one box)

Call 2.
TV Drive is a product not yet available and won't be for the next few months. Any prices? No.

Haha. No change in CS then. Morons. I don't doubt that further calls would reveal further amusing answers to a simple question.

normally i spring to the defence of CS staff as generally its policy thats the problem but in this case they have no excuse,

the TV drive and info regarding it such as pricing has been on the ntl intranet for weeks if not a month now so they've all had plenty of chance to read it just haven bothered, also for dates it tells you the date on the postcode checker so they can check on there to give a rough idea of the roll out date for a particular area
