Graphics help!
Hi,
I have a couple of logo's I want ot add to my website. Currently they are in .jpg format. What I want to do is remove the white area around the logo - in essence - "cut it out" (not sure what the graphical term is for that process!) ...or change the background from white to another colour so it matches and blends (I know the pallet code for the colour). So - how do do this? I have Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop, but enver really got round to learning these! You can see an example of what I mean on my site - link below...look at the Vista logo I've just uploaded to the news articles... Any ideas? Cheers Lee :tu::tu::tu: |
Re: Graphics help!
You want to make the background transparent i take it?
The best way to do this is to: Open a new image the same size as the current one and copy the image in there. Then use the 'magic wand tool' to take out the white. You should be left with the image you want and a transparent image. Then you need to save if as a gif or a png file (.gif & .png support transparent layers) I would not do .png yet because IE 6 has a problem with them. So go with gif |
Re: Graphics help!
Magic Wand? Is that in photoshop? Can't see it in PSP?

Photoshop - if you cant do then upload it to here and we'll see if we can have a stab at it. The location of the magic wand tool iis in the 3rd uploaded pic. Then select the white area and cut

Re: Graphics help!
Sorry - not tried yet - shopping, ironing etc rules before PC work!
So says the GF - blame her!! |
Re: Graphics help!
You may have to set a feathering value or the edges of the cut out image will look ragged and show on a different colour background.
Can be tricky. |
Re: Graphics help!
it depends on the images, if the contrast between the backing and the front is very stark then he wont get ragged edges.

That image is far to small, the microsoft logo would be cut out. Here I did but i did it with a bigger image. There are 3 sizes, they should all be transparent. But the background is white so its hard to tell

Re: Graphics help!
Ahh - I see - yes when I tried it - it did give me an outline of the Windows logo....wondered what was going on!
The one on the right was the smallest - correct? Is that the smallest it would go? I've managed to do the Vista logo "orb" (see site link below) and that was quite small...and photoshop did that.... |
Re: Graphics help!
No, It will go as small as you want it. Its just I cut out the background and THEN i made it smaller. As long as you do what you want to it first and then re-size it works well.
---------- Post added at 12:02 ---------- Previous post was at 11:58 ---------- You could have made it work by reducing the tolrance as well. (of the magic wand) that decides how much it will cut out (how close to the colour it will, so the higher it is then the more colour gets highlighted). |
Re: Graphics help!
