Defrag Question

After using Diskeeper to defrag my system, after it completed, there are still "Low Performing system files" as shown in pink on the screen shot below, why is this? Should it not make everything blue?

Re: Defrag Question

These are normal the longer the system runs the more defragmented these become making defraging hard as time goes by.There locked files so diskeeper cant defrag it you could try a boot time defrag to see if that makes any difference

However, only do a boot time defrag if you have lots of spare time. I did this at work once and after the first hour I tried to close it down as it was still chuntering on. Unfortunately, I then found out that it was literally impossible to get out of it. I simply had to leave my PC until it had completed the defrag overnight! Perhaps Diskeeper has improved since then, but I wouldn't care to bet on it.

Re: Defrag Question

Doing a defrag on a server is even more annoying, especially when it insists that you have to set a defrag up at boot time and insists on a restart. You then get a vicious circle of wondering why it's taking ages to reboot, as you can't see any signs of life, so crash out, go into safe more, tell it to defrag or whatever and round and round you go. Meanwhile everyone complains that the network keeps falling over :(

Not used this tool but I find O&O Defrag to be very good for my Windows box... my Linux box doesn't ever need defragging

On the first screen shot, the defrag has been completed, yet still parts of the bar are still in pink meaning "Low Performing System Files"

Re: Defrag Question

Solve the problem by defragging daily :) I did. It now takes around 10 minutes each maximum to defrag my pc, server and laptop. Bit extreame? Nope. Keeps it running at top speed all the time. I set it as a scheduled task on my server at it runs at 1am, followed by backups at 2-4am (tho the backups dont actually take 2 hours, they're just spread out).

Re: Defrag Question

I recently got Diskeeper 2007 and it automatically defrags whenever it needs to. I never have to run Diskeeper, unless I want to do a boot-time defrag.
