More e.mail problems :(
Hi guys.
We have about 6 or 7 ntl e.mail addresses. Noticed there was a new sign in process last night but found out how to do it, selected the relevant address, up popped the associated ********** password automatically in the little box as usual and we were in. Today been trying to access e.mail again. The address we accessed last night still opens fine but on all the others the previously stored passwords seem to have disappeared. No problem I thought, just re-enter the relevant passwords and tick the box to say 'remember me' but when I do that I just get a 404 error telling me the page cannot be found. The service is working as I have just sent a test mail from the one working e.mail address to my old tvinternet e.mail address and it's come through ok. Can anyone shed any light? BTW - tried customer services and been told to call back later as they're having technical problems dealing with calls due to bad weather????? Cheers from Mystified of Bromley :) |

Re: More e.mail problems :(
I think NTL are doing some nationwide upgrading. I'm in South Mancherster and have noticed that my computer is having difficulty downloading my e-mail and connecting with the internet. My usual 4 Mb download speed was down to 0.3Mb at one point. It will be interesting to see what happens once the upgrading is done.

Re: More e.mail problems :(
Thanks for the replies guys :)
Have been in contact with customer services after a very long wait and been told there is a technical problem (as if I didn't know lol) Anyway. I have been able to access my mail via the webmail.ntlworld.com address quoted elsewhere but it's a bit of a fiddle as the passwords aren't stored apparently so one has to be entered for each address viewed. As for the login/logout palaver - at the moment it's looking like a retrograde step to me - even the CS person I spoke to couldn't really explain it and in what way it is an improvement. From what little of it I've seen it is a pain in the bum and I can only conclude that NTL doesn't want customers to use it! There's an old maxim: don't fix what isn't broken! |
Re: More e.mail problems :(
Just to follow on from the previous posts :(
When I sign in to check my e.mail I select the relevant mailbox address from the drop down box and am asked to enter the password. I do this and check the 'remember me' box. This now takes me to the mailbox OK (so one problem is fixed) but I cannot get the system to store the relevant passwords!!! The 'remember me' button seems to do nothing! Am I doing something wrong, is there another technical issue or is this new system even crappier that I first thought? Yours - even more frustrated of Bromley.. |

Re: More e.mail problems :(
My email was down on Tuesday. It was back yesterday and now is down again.
Be nice if I could find out why and if it's likely to happen again.. Roz :( |
Re: More e.mail problems :(
what is wrong with it (i.e. what error message are you receiving?)

Re: More e.mail problems :(
Most commonly the 0E error occurs when you have something intercepting port 110 traffic (i.e. antivirus software proxy or spamfilter) and it is not working correctly. If you have AV software installed, try diabling it temporarily and see if the problem goes away. Commonly this will happen if you are using Norton and the first email in your mailbox is either very large or corrupted in some way (e.g. malformed spam headers or non-ascii characters)

Re: More e.mail problems :(
Back on today..I do have Norton so will do as you suggested if it goes again.

Re: More e.mail problems :(
And now it's back off again..
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Getting way beyond a joke now, this is. :( |
Re: More e.mail problems :(
Try logging into http://webmail.ntlworld.com , clear a few of the 1st emails (as long as they are not important).. and see if it works then.
As mentioned,, if the emails have corrupted headers, etc the server wont deliver them and just bum's out. |
Re: More e.mail problems :(
Unless they're blatant spam you can move messages to a subfolder temporarily (POP clients only dowload from the inbox). The problem is not with the server delivering them, but Norton just drops the connection to the server when it finds something it does not like but doesn't let the mail client know so that thinks it is still downloading.
