Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
Oh goody!
The synergy of Carphone Warehouse's Broadband customer service, and that of AOL, should be a wonder to behold. run, run, run away! |
Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
NTL simply won't be in their league when it comes to a competition for the worst ISP!

Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
Dear lord, I've only ever had the mis-fortune to deal with AOL CS once and I still get flashbacks now :erm: What next.... they all amalgamate with Pipex????

Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK

Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
Talktalk is over subscribed so they buy an isp.Aol isnt small so this will be a shrewd move on there part to expand there connectivity. AOL as a BB provider (as long as you use a router) is no less crap than any other crap BT based isp. I understand people do not like AOL internal browser because of wan ports and driver etc but for the mainstream No0b user its fine.

Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
Interesting. I wonder how this will affect AOL broadband customers whose service is provided through ntl cable?

Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
The announcement came as the mobile phone retailer revealed losses from offering "free" broadband to 625,000 of its Talk Talk customers will hit £70 million this year.

Are we talking about connectivity here ? |
Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
Oh dear. I currently use AOL BB. It is after all one of the few ADSL suppliers that actually does allow unlimited access. It's actually been pretty solid as well, don't think particularly highly of the AOL software though which is why I don't use it or have it installed.
I am concerned about caps though, so it's possible that NTL may have a returning customer, for BB anyway. I'll have to see how much that would cost. Kevin |
Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
go back to NTL as AOL are crap.

Does anyone else live in the Flitwick area of Bedfordshire and if so could they say whether BB with NTL has been reliable. I had reliability problems with NTL before, one of the reasons I left in the first place but if they have been sorted out then I may well book for an installation. Kevin |
Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
Might get a decent working WAP phone now. :D

Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
Well, Mr Impatient (me) has placed an order for NTL BB.

Does this mean that AOL could set up call centres within the UK?

Recently emails were taking hours and hours days to be forwarded. there was no status message on 123-reg and they took over one week to reply to my message asking about the problem. The reply simply said 'we're having problems, don't know when they'll be fixed'. To be honest, they're all as bad as each other. Apalling customer service is the norm these days. Someone I know just transferred into 1&1, tried to adjust the nameserver info, the system wouldn't let him. Two days after sending an email asking for help they wrote back saying that they shouldn't do it for him, he's supposed to do it all through the webiste...but on this ocassion they'd do it. That was three days ago - they've still not done it, so the site's been down for almost a week now. Sorry for going off topic! |
Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
you know I read it and thought thats a very cheap price, (consider that BE went for almost same price and had barely a 20th of the customer base) and I see AOL will continue to get a % of the revenues.

Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
oh no.....
N i loved AOL for its unlimited usage and uninterrupted connection. CPW beta not mess up. For those who complain abt AOL 8.0, u can always work around that even if u only use a simple bb modem. Which brings me back to another of my post...someone already mentioned demon provided UNLIMITED download. does any1 else provide that??? |
Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
NTL

Re: Carphone Warehouse Buys AOL in the UK
There are no 100% Unlimited ISPs anywhere, it simply isn't possible, they will all be subject, as with NTL to a fair use policy, yes it is advertised as unlimited and can be taken as such.

and NTL's traffic shaping

I know that for sure because i download so much stuff sometimes and i have a home network, therefor more download. Besides which, when i took bb 2 yrs ago, my main issue was to get unlimited, which AOL provided me with at no extra cost. |
