OnDemand isn't responding to demands!

I've had a quick scan of recent OnDemand posts in case this is a common problem at the moment, but can't see any. Still, apologies in case it has!

Our OnDemand isn't working. When I attempt to select it all I get is the OnDemand menu without any options.

The STB stops responding to instructions for about a minute and then you're able to return to the TV.

Any ideas what could be causing this? It has worked fine before.

Cheers all :)

Sound's like it could be poor signal strength on the return path - I'm sure if this is off target then other people will come and correct me. Either way its likely to be a fault tech visit...

I just tried 'on demand' and was quite impressed, but I wasn't stressing my return path, when I tried ;)

Shouldn't make a difference - it will either work or it won't generally.

our on demand is generally good - except that things seemed a bit slow... but that's cos we need new batteries! the other thing you could try is the unplugging the stb for a minute and holding the down button... when you plug back in (why does this work)? i've had to do this three times in the past week.

It doesn't. It's a myth. If you rebooted without holding the button it would have exactly the same effect.

The only time holding the button in makes a difference is if the box is getting stuck with 'tune' on the display on bootup. Holding the button in bypasses this stage of the process, and sometimes will get your TV service back temporarily.

oh, I see. I think. thank you for clarifying that. :)

Just to update - I finally got around to pulling the plug on the STB and restarting it - worked a treat, cheers all :)

Still no Casualty part two on there, though I notice

Maybe on demand needs renaming?
Am I glad I'm sticking with sky+, a year now and no such problems ;)

You can't exactly compare Sky+ to vod - they're entirely different systems. vod is something sky customers will be able to come (kind of) close to with sky multiscreen for the films, but will never be able to offer the same service as cable. In realation to Sky+ and pvr's maybe your not aware that Telewest customers already have accesses to a pvr and ntl customers will very shortly indeed.

The current cable tv systems ntl have are not a patch on sky+ in my opinion, factor in the superior reliability sky has over ntl and its game set match sky ;)

Until of course the TVdrive is launched in January.

TVOD, recording to a 160Gb hard drive with 3 separate inputs... hmmm can't wait ;).

hmm, much as I would be tempted by having a TVdrive thingy, it would of course help if I knew what was on tv when - I hardly look at a tv guide as it is, all I do is flick through and channel hop til I find something, it'd be wasted on me!

Excuse me for being silly, but how doI know if I have VOD?

I push on demand on my remote and all I get is the same stuff ive had since the start of time.

Movies about to start, adult and sports events.

Can some post a screeny just so us poor users that dont have VOD can drool?

Ta

Im in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire btw.

whoever put the latest liberate GUI together wants sacking, but the only way to get that original VOD screen it seems is to goto channel 100 then press the red button, then you can select
movies:tvhits:music:kids:MOTW:help-video's.

Re: OnDemand isn't responding to demands!

What Ive noticed recently with respect to the so called "On Demand" service is that there are awful sound "drop-outs" - now, Ive noticed this on my own STB but downstairs there are no probs - (this is a newer box)

Also, with regard to programmes that should be put on this service - what about Robin Hood being added to the Series Choice???? I went to watch the first episode this morning, only to realise that is had been overwritten with the most recent episode!!!! Grrrr Whats the point in watching it now then??

We have two STBs upstairs - both experiencing some problems (even the main one downstairs reboots itself every few days). Perhaps its time to vote with our feet once again??

thanks homealone.

regarding the Robin Hood first episode ,or any of them come to that , you might wonder if they dont have the money to buy more raid harddrive space to store these programs so need to keep deleteing stuff.......

Sounds great if it does what it says on the packet, I admire the loyalty of some, is that defo january as in 2007? ;)
And will the whole country be able to get it from launch?
What NTL are able to show in HD will be dictated by how much content sky want to share with NTL, off topic I know, but for me there's only one television provider :tu: :)

well not really, NTL:tw could always upscale the SD content to HD format at the HeadEnd and call that HD, im sure some executive NTL:tw board member and the sales departments/accountants have already thought about that one, weather you users will allow them to sell you that is another question.

if noone buys into it (and tells them why), then perhaps the users might get better usable tech in its place and eventually everyone wins perhaps?.

I no doubt guess NTL have thought about it ;) but surely if youre going to pay for something you want the real deal? I know I do :)
You know the old adage " crap in crap out " ?
A little like emptying the aldi beans into the heinz 57 tin? you just cant force the kids to eat them these days ;)

Yep, as in Jan 2007. Don't quite know too much about the HD side of it as its not of a great concern to me at the moment. Give the current TV a few more years yet before it conks out, then I'll worry about HD.
