Has your neighbour cancelled their service?

Either way, ring CS and explain - they should be able to arrange a collection for you. :)

Get her to ring STB Collections on 0800 052 6178. They'll send someone to pick it up.

If you happen to be near the Baguley area of Manchester, you could drop it off to the team that deals with this kind of thing:

City House
Timpson Road
Baguley
Manchester
M23 9WX

(from http://www.home.ntl.com/page/equipmentreturns)

Why should the customer have to return the equipment to NTL, surely it should be them coming to collect it straight away, not the customer having to ring and ring and ring to get them to collect it.

Re: ntl picking up samsung stb

I also have a nice new samsung stb that I'm trying to return, I've booked a collection several times and the device still clutters my house.

I reckon they only pick up the equipment if there are any engineer call outs in the area to be done.

punky 15-08-2005 18:50

Re: ntl picking up samsung stb

And NTL wonder how so much of their equiptment ends up on sale?

If they picked up the boxes they say they would, then there will be a lot less.

Missing/screwing up one collection, OK, fine, everyone makes mistakes, but several in a row? You shouldn't have to badger them to do something they require you to do legally. Sounds like someone needs to sort the department out. Seems outrageous.

Mark: Try using the responsetek thing, see if that helps.

And they wonder why there are so many for sale on Ebay :(

I believe it is down to the customer to get the stb back to ntl......according to the T & C's......ntl have a contractor picking them up and they get a job lot in that area, the contractor could have been to your house several times but missed you.

Personally i would have phoned CS and said that i was going to bill them for storage of the Box,Its supprising how many companies still fall for that one.

So why not just bin it?...

ntl not collecting the boxes is NOT the reason there are loads on ebay. Sellers of stbs on ebay are unscrupulous a-holes/thieves trying to make as quick buck out of buyers' lack of knowledge.

It's *A* reason they're on eBay. NTL can't do much about STBs taken in burglaries and sold at car boot sales, but if they kept a very tight regime on collecting them, and had inventory systems in place that stopped unscrupulous employees stealing them, there would be a much, much smaller supply available.

Also, eBay should be made aware that while it's legal to trade cable boxes in the US, and it's legal to trade satellite boxes in the UK, the sale of UK cable boxes is illegal.

Sorry, but its cluttering up the house, then what's easier? Just binning it, or setting an auction up? People sell them purely for money. not to declutter the house.

Believe me, there are systems in place....

Err, ebay DO know it's illegal. The stbs are on their list of prohibited items but obviously they cannot police every auction 24 hours a day.

Of course people sell them purely for money. My point was that if NTL did the job properly and picked up 100% of set-top boxes when people unsubscribed, there wouldn't be any to go on eBay (apart from a small number taken in break-ins, as I mentioned before).

You can blame people for being greedy and for not abiding to the T&Cs, but NTL have it within their power to stop the market in illegal boxes almost completely, and they aren't doing it.

And they are useless! I collected boxes for a year, customers would wait 2 months, not be informed we were coming, and then have 3 boxes to return when NTL thought they only had one.!:Yikes: Shower of S##t
