People to sue tour operators for getting skin cancer on holiday?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4722777.stm
Words fail me. :afire: :afire: :afire: :afire: :afire: Well, not totally fail me... I will post again when I can manage to avoid using the amount of obscenities that I was going to. |
Re: People to sue tour operators for getting skin cancer on holiday?
Now that takes the godswallping ****, what next suing your local kebab shop for giving you the trots?
Or perhaps suing Asda cos the bag broke after YOU loaded it to heavy and something hit your toe. This is stupid, if your not mature enough to take such choices into your hands as it was you who picked the holiday, you who laid down in basking sun knowing the risks. What is this world coming to. |
Re: People to sue tour operators for getting skin cancer on holiday?
How dare they, aren't they ashamed? This is typical of an aspect of society which I have begun to abhor, it's so pathetic. :(

This is where the very worst aspect of the American Legal system we seem to be copying is taking effect. Whatever happened to personal responsibility. No wonder we are ending up with a "nanny state".http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Wipe-Glasses.gif

Re: People to sue tour operators for getting skin cancer on holiday?
It's the out-of-control compensation culture we have today. Everything that happens is someone elses fault. Some people are so stupid that they have to be told hot coffee is hot or wet floors are slippery. Hence the ridiculously obvious safety warnings we see all around us.
I remember a few years ago during a thick fog, police switched on motorway signs advising a speed limit of 50mph. There was a pile-up involving several cars. Some of the drivers involved complained that it was the fault of the police because 50mph was far too fast for the conditions. They didn't have the sense of course to reduce their speed accordingly. The frightening thing is this people have the right to vote! |

Re: People to sue tour operators for getting skin cancer on holiday?
LOL!
Tis funny! Anyway, sorry to be a kill joy but this is a study suggesting it could happen. No one is actually suing the travel companies yet. Seems stupid when you read how angry some of these posts are when it has not even happened :erm: Do you ever think you are getting a little bit too angry and worked up on the forums? Getting so angry over a study suggesting that some people may sue travel companies is a tad over-the-top? |

Re: People to sue tour operators for getting skin cancer on holiday?
The thing is not that the companies are at fault for sending them to these places but rather that they did not warn them about the dangers. In the same way that smoking companies did not warn of the dangers of smoking.
Unlike those smoking companies however I do not think that travel companies are responsible for the danger. They are selling flights and accommodations, they do not sell the sun. I do think that they should warn people and give more advice as they have a responsibility to their customers (its just not a legal one). Thankfully a lot of awareness has been raised in recent years and the danger of the sun have finally started to be understood, even by those who think the sun is healthy. |
Re: People to sue tour operators for getting skin cancer on holiday?
I really have never heard so much tripe in my life. Suing your tour operator for getting skin cancer?
Like suing the pub for the fact that you fell over on a good stretch of road because you drank too much? Or indeed, suing Starbucks for getting an injury from lifting a coffee cup containing a hot beverage? Christ people, where has common sense all gone these days? Of course if you're going to sit out in the sun for hours on your holiday without protection you can potentially get skin cancer? Of course you're going to get burnt if you lift a coffee cup containing a hot beverage. It's all self inflicted, nothing more. It's getting ridiculous. I await the day when I read that some bloke/woman sues a club because she/he got STDs because of not stopping them from having a s |-|ag in the toilet on a night out. |

Can I also say that the effects of the sun have been underestimated and so was the danger of skin cancer, it is a very serious danger and up until a few years ago it wasn't treated as so. The problem was that people were unaware of the danger |
Re: People to sue tour operators for getting skin cancer on holiday?
This is silly. For a start, it has been increasing sunny here over the past few years. If someone gets Skin cancer, it's entirely possible they got it here.
Where will it stop? Petrol companies being sued because people who live near roads have got Asthma? Perhaps people suing the local council when their relatives hang over the edge of a railway bridge to grafitti and fall.. |
