Need Advice

I'm about to go out on a big works "do".
I want to know: is it best to shave or not?

I only shave once a week and most people say that I look better when I don't shave.

However, there's always the silly girls who think that a clean shaven guy is better for some unknown reason, so I ask you: which is more attractive?

Perhaps you could post two pics, one clean shaven and the other unshaven and then we can all vote :D Obviously, if you are damn ugly in the first place then it ain't gonna make a blind bit of difference :p:

Shave (if someone is interested enough for a second date you could try unshaven then, but for "works dos" you should always make an effort).

Unfortunately Richard, coming from a guy with a goatee, that I have had since I was 18, all women want shaven men. Trust me :(

A very, very small minority like or don't mind beards - some most want to stroke it (mine is very long, currently about 3 inches), but that doesn't last. Many have complained that it makes kissing "tickly".

If you can stand to shave, then do it. I look even more grotesque without a beard but I am debating over wether to go completely clean-shaven, or to stick by my principles and have a short, trimmed goatee...

Depends if your on the pull, if not, go as you feel comfortable, I hate shaving and like Punky have had a goaty for years, but it takes a lot of looking after ( in my case ) so now I have stubble, all I do is go over the lot with the trimmers long open blade, my gf likes it :tu: and to be honest I do look better with than without IMVHO :dozey:

Most of all, do it for yourself

Shave for sure, esp if you are on the pull.

I hate shaving, get away with only shaving twice a week these days.

Depends how posh the 'do' is really. I personally like a bit of facial hair on a man....But that wouldn't look particularly good if you were in a suit etc.

I hate it too. Lucky that I only have to do it once or twice a week as well. Some mates have to do it everyday or end up looking like Homer Simpson !

Re: Need Advice

Personally I would always recommend shaving before you go to any formal do - It makes a better impression, and TBH women prefer clean shaven men, as then dont get a "Beard Rash".
I once asked a female friend why she didn't like unshaven men, and she said it was because she felt the beard was hiding something..

If you have the time and the cash, go to a barbers and get a "proper" shave - with hot towels and a "cut-throat" razor - I get one every so often, and it is the bet shave you can get, with the bonus of having an attractive women (if you are lucky) paying attention to you and making sure you don't have any stubble left over ;)

That's a good idea, I might do that. After all its pointless having guys say "women like.." and "women don't like..", its your opinion at the end of the day that matters, and pictures would help that best.

I/you could submit them to hotornot and see how the scores compare.

I would say shave,

although it is a works do, you could pull someone who is not from your work, when you get to wherever you're going.

although the do may not be formal, you could make an effort to clean yourself up. I am not saying go in a suit but freshen your looks up and you will attract more people, hopefully :erm:

I shave about 5.45am, and by 2pm I have stubble, I often get told "get a shave you scruffy git" by people in work who haven't seen me in the morning.

I find it grows for about 2-3 days very quickly and then grows very slowly after that.

A noble sentiment but unfortunately that doesn't get very far in the today's meat market known as dating. Being myself is why I have been single for nigh on 2 years.

Compromising your principals is common sense here. 10% or less of single available women (generous estimate, I think) probably like, or even could tolerate beards. You are much better taking your medicine, shaving and chasing the 90%

Hence the new and improved me. I am losing weight, but smartening up. The shaggy beard is going, in favour of a trimmed one or no beard at all (see forth coming thread), and I am now buying shirts and smart tops, rather than just wearing newer t-shirts for more formal occaisons. The chances of finding a girl doing everything my own way is very unlikely, I am going to have to meet her some of the way too. Girls probably don't like doing half the stuff they do to get men, but they do. Fair's fair.

But this is the new CONFIDENT you.You are bound to pull if you feel and look as good as you can because it gives you a confident air and I can assure you that women respond to that.Mind you have to watch not appearing too c*cky.Balance is all. ;)

TBH though, I am not any more confident now than before. I am more optimistic but unless I can back that up with some results, i'd be as jaded as ever.

You are absolutely spot on with the confidence angle though. Every guy should never underestimate its importance. My two brothers never failed to get women, and while one is literally God's gift to women, the other, bless him, isn't as much so. They both say the same thing: confidence wins the girl.

It will only get people so far though. Most girls I have spoken to about this (and it has been quite a few since I started growing mine at 18) have said that beards tickle, and irritate the skin. Being confident doesn't supercede any irritations girls have about beards. :( For more minor problems though, yeah it would.

Whatever you do make sure it's for you and because it will make you feel better about yourself (a very attractive trait). You can guarantee the folks you are trying to attract will be more receptive if you are not trying. ie you will meet the right person when you are p*$$ed as a newt out with your mates (I met my other half that way and it will be our 16th anniversary next month).

Slobbing around is not "self respect". Making an effort is and it's that effort and "self respect" that is attractive.

An important thing is also that if you give off the air of desperation it can be very off putting that is why people that have a partner suddenly find they are more attractive to people

I think if you want to have a bit of a 'makeover', that you do it for you, not because you think it makes you more attractive to others.:)

- you could always compromise, 2 out of 3, how about stick with eating carefully & exercising, trim the face fungus, but save money by not buying new clothes ;)

Thanx for the advice guys... (Sorry to hijack your thread Richard)

Don't get me wrong, I am not desperate per se, but after all this time, i'd like to be dating rather than single. If I am 35 and still having this conversation, then i'll be desperate. :)

I think you guys are right, I might be going a bit overkill on increasing my chances for aiming to be a non-footballing Beckham :)

So tough what to do, so many different options, opinions...

Re: Need Advice

The best pieces of advice I've heard are:

"Don't look for the right person, BE the the right person."

But that has to be paired up with... "BE YOURSELF."

So maybe that means you should make the effort to spruce yourself up, be a more interesting person to know, brush up on social skills, but stay true to who you are.
