Broadband query . . .

simple question here.

Currently im subscribed to an ntl 2mb broadbandand the digital basepack and phone line package.

I would like to know if its possible to have this package changed to a 2mb broadband ONLY package as i cant justify the extra £21.50 a month for a set-top box and phoneline which i never use.

I have phoned CS about this issue before and was told that it is not possible to subscribe to broadband internet without the other packages. Now after reading these forums for a while ive seen that other users are doing exactly that and subscribing to broadband only packages.

Naturally id like to make sure that i have all my facts correct before i make another call to CS so id like to know if i am right to assume that there should be no problem for me changing my package to a broadband only package.

Ive been with ntl for 4 years so im well past any minimum term constraints and am at the point where i will be seeking a new provider if im unable to change the package.

You can have Broadband without TV/Phone.

You can't have Tv without phone though.

I'm almost 100% on this, I'm sure someone wil be along soon to confirm though :)

Ntl do phone, TV and broadband. there is no reason at all why you cannot have just one, any two or all three of these services.

If your BB is currently via a STB you might be moved onto a modem, although many find the TV part only of the modem is deactivated.

The phone line rental is often bundled "free" with some other ntl services like TV, (I say free, there will be a cost buried somewhere and if it goes standalone there will be a rental costs).

Current details of ntls services and pricing :

confirmed :tu:

the only exception that i know of is if you have signed up for the "3 for £30" package (1mb BB, base pack tv, phone line) when you must retain all three services for a year :)

Actually... you can't a TV package without having a phoneline.

thanks for the quick responses.

Prob should have clarified my equipment setup in the first post.

Basically when ntl was installed we had a set-top box installed downstairs and the ntl phone and sB4100 SACM were installed upstairs where the pc is.

Naturally id be much happier only paying the £24.99 a month for the 2mb which from the responses so far there seems no reason why i would be unable to do this :)

Raistlin 18-07-2005 20:27

Re: Broadband query . . .

Yep, they can take away your phone connectivity and the STB as well.

You can then have your internet through the SACM.

Absolutely no reason at all why you shouldn't be able to have your services as you want them, unless you've signed up to something like the 3 for £30 option (which it doesn't sound like you have).

Give 'em a call and raise hell :D

I don't think you can have tv with out the phone as they bundle it in with the tv "free" but you don't have to use it, you can have tv without BB though :)

Phone line rental is included in the total cost of the package but you don't have to use the phone line if you don't want to. Is there a reason why you want to keep your current telephone line?

Re: Broadband query . . .

Just thought id post an update on this.

After a call to CS my package will be changed to a broadband ONLY package in 30 days time.

Fingers crossed that this all happens smoothly as the guy on the phone didnt ask for my cust account # or anything so im assuming hes able to implement those changes from my phone number alone.
