another mobile phone recommendation thread

yes, it's me this time. the oracle of all useless advice, asking for advice :)

anyway the situation as it stands at the moment.... i have two contracts:

orange yourplan direct 3000 texts at £20 a month
vodafone 200 xnet mins and 200 texts £30 a month

and one phone, orange SPV M1000. Both contracts are coming up to the end (both about 9 months through). So, I'm basically going to jack both of them in and take out a nice spangly new contract which incorporates as many free minutes as possible, and approximately 300 texts, 3200 a month is just overkill.

And I don't want to spend £50 a month or more, as I am now (incidentally, used 32mb of GPRS on top this month, that added another £25  )

Sooooo, can anyone recommend good mobile phones to me? I've seen a lot of offers over at onestopphoneshop but since growing up i've fallen out of the "what mobile phone is trendy" market...

Bluetooth is the one essential thing it needs, all other things are expendable as far as I'm concerned. I want to get something smaller to carry around and leave the SPV sitting in the car for permanent satnav now, it is a bit heavy :)

So, recommendations at the end of all that? I'm generally opposed to SonyEricsson phones, they don't work too well with me. And no, i'm not going to wait for an upgrade, i've already checked that out with orange and my upgrade fee is £100, before i even take into account the costs of getting another phone :erm:

:)

I know what you said about SE phones but the new K750 is a fantastic fone feature wise.

The Samsung D500 is also very good, bluetooth on both fones is very good. Plus they are both relativly small.

Can't spaek for the 750 but the 750i is a nice little phone with a lot of power, very nice cam 2 mega pixel, the gf has just got one :tu:
Be warned some were called back, so just make sure you get a new batch phone, if you go for one of these ;)

SPV M2000 is catching my eye when my renewal is up in November but can I install Mobile 5.0 over Mobile 2003 Second Edition? and can I install a Mobile AIM on it too ? I know it's got MSN Messenger built in.

Don't start me off on Windows Mobile5 - the gits at Orange are not providing an upgrade (yet) on the SPV C500 - or even the band new C550. There is a ROM image on the web somewhere - but it's not official and installing it could damage / invalidate your warranty...

As long as it's not on 3 - the Nokia 6680. That's all you need IMO. I'd say it wipes the floor with anything Sony Ericsson bring out, and that's saying something.

bumpty bumpty bump....

russell >> are three really taht terrible? i've decided to plump on the nokia 6680 after much wrangling, the three tariff "video talk & text 700" seems to match what i need almost perfectly... is £17.50 a month for 6 months too...

i can't see any other network's tariffs coming even close to that, so what is the big issues with 3?:erm:

Re: another mobile phone recommendation thread

You dare call me 'Russell' again and you'll find your arse so banned :D

Three are like ntl - everything will be fine until something goes wrong. I chose a £5 video content add-on to my tariff and set about downloading all the Big Brother video clips. I sent them an email to enquire if the BB clips were included and the reply said they are - I still have their reply.

Only..when my bill came, they said the BB clips are NOT included in the add-on offer. I hit the roof and called them, telling them the person who sent the email lied to me and sent them a copy. All respect to them, they DID refund what I'd spent on the BB stuff. But still, I can no longer trust anything they tell me.

As for the 6680, it is an ossum phone. The only thing missing IMO is a radio, and also if you leave too many applications open, the phone complains about being low on memory - you can shut them down individually by holding down the menu key.

Have fun with your phone - I love mine :D

whatever you say russell :p:

the last nokia phone i had was a 7650, an awesomely bricktacular phone, i'm scared as i have been on windows smartphones for the best part of 2 years now... :erm:

i've been with orange since i started getting phones too, no gripes with them but their contract prices are shall we say... "undesirable" compared to what 3 can throw at me...

*goes to think abuot ordering again*

have fun RUSSELL ;)

i knew it, didn't have the guts :p: and you call yourself an admin? ;)

anyway, i've just ordered...

Nokia 6680 on 3, with video talk and text 700:

Minutes 400 mins
SMS 250 texts
Video call minutes 25 mins
Video or photo messages 25 messages - any combination
Video bonus £5 to play with every month

should cost £35 a month, but is 9 months half price line rental, so all that is £17.50 a month. Free insurance for three months too, what a cracking deal :)

got it from www.simply3g.co.uk if anyone else is interested ;)

your recommendations about the phone better not be crap russell :p:

got an LG at the moment which is rubbish as you can't even add words to the txt dictionary..

TBH the best phone i had was the first ohoe i got an 8210.. you could txt and make calls with it

the orange C500 was a great phone, probably the best one i have had up to press to be honest. It has a massive, clear screen, it has internet explorer/msn which makes life very very easy when you need to check things on the move, it has MS activesync, which works flawlessly... calling is very very easy too, put the number in and press the green button, and away you go ;)
