Dead Pixel - 15 Inch TFT

I recently bought a 15 Inch TFT flat panel monitor. It has one dead pixel. In the user manual it does not mention about a refund for dead pixels. Should I get a replacement?

Nope, think you need a few more than one but it does vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Like paul says, I think manufactures generally deem it acceptable for a TFT to have 1-3 dead pixels.

You should ASK for a replacement. Unless you specifically asked for a 'A' grade panel you probably won't get one tho....

Having said that. My latop TFT screen had a dead pixel on it when I got that. When I cleaned it, it went away. Can't hurt to try :)

It might sound odd but try gently massaging it .. seriously.

Re: Dead Pixel - 15 Inch TFT

It is a bit of con but most manufacturers seem to consider this within tolerance. The consumer however sees it otherwise.

Take it back to the shop and simply state the dead pixel is in such a location that it make the screen unuseable for you, is thus unfit for purpose and demand a refund / replacement. Given that most major retailers have no quibble refund policies these days, and online retailers have similar policies then getting it changed shouldn't be an issue. Stand up for your rights :)

It is a cheapo TFT

I don't really wanna get a replacement with 3 dead pixels or something

Re: Dead Pixel - 15 Inch TFT

It's not a con as such. From what i understand, the manufacturing process isn't 100% and imperfections do happen. They happen with other components, but they happen on a per-component basis. A lot of buyers (especially businesses) don't have a problem with a few dead pixels here and there, so the panels don't get binned. If they binned every panel that had dodgy pixels, the prices would skyrocket.

Certain models/brands have different dead pixel polices. The retailer will probably accept it back though, right enough.

When did you buy it? I'd take it back and make a lot of noise if they start saying no ;)

Ask to see it working in the shop before you take it home.

It is already home. It is the subject of this thread.

You just said you don't want to get a REPLACEMENT with 3 dead pixels.....

Take it back and ask them. If they offer you a replacement, get them to plug it into a pc so you can check it over before you take it home.

If I was getting a replacement, I'd insist in checking it so that it had NO dead pixels. The best way to do that is to plug it in and check it (If you're getting the replacment from a shop that is)....

And she'll never know if she's gonna get one if she don't ask :)

As I said even if it was one dead pixel I'd be taking it back, and asking for another one.

you statutory rights as a consumer should be enough to demand a refund of replacement if it has defective pixels.

Me too! and you're making perfect sense to me...

If I got a dead pixel on this TFT seeing as it's 2 1/2 years old I'll just get a new one :) with no dead pixels of course.

I paid £179 for my LG L1715s Flatron monitor ( 17inch tft ) the store I got it from ( Misson Computers of Rochdale) said and I quote.

" any dead pixels anywhere bring it back and I will replace it"

if you buy a tft and the g'tee says that ' blah blah blah pixels ' then surely that is going to be the deciding factor

Re: Dead Pixel - 15 Inch TFT

indeed if at the time of purchase you were made aware of the dead pixels or that there will be some expected to be dead then you're probably buggered! as long as they can prove you were made aware!

if it's written in a manual or somewhere you cant see before buying then it's bollards!

Re: Dead Pixel - 15 Inch TFT

Most TFT's are sold conforming to ISO 13406-2, which basically states that its accepable to have 2 dead pixels per million pixels, or 5 sub-pixels per million.
Full details here http://www.autdirect.co.uk/acatalog/ISO_13406_2.jpg

Even dead pixel g'tees only ensure there are no dead pixels *at the time the display was sold*. Any that appear afterwards aren't covered.

Re: Dead Pixel - 15 Inch TFT

Did you buy it from Dixons along with the PC you bought or was it PC World. Take it back asap and they should swap it without any problems. We nearly always do, have 100's of the things and for the price it's best to keep the customer happy. If it says absolutely nothing in the manual or warranty (it doesn't for those proviews) then use that as an arguement if you don't get your way.

Re: Dead Pixel - 15 Inch TFT

buy via the internet, phone or any other remote method and you have better rights - ie. distance selling regulations which mean you can return the product if you change your mind (you have 1 week only though).

Do you get a large failure rate on the Proviews... because mine's one of those and as i said, it's had no problems so far ... :) /touches my new chipwood desk
