Re: forgotten password on xp
If your file system is FAT32 then boot from a floppy and delete the sam file, I think it lives in c:\windows\system32\config\ This will make the admin password blank. But you will also have to recreate all users.

Re: forgotten password on xp
What about the main/ hidden admin account? Anyone know the password to that?
|
Re: forgotten password on xp
hidden ?? sorry what hidden

Re: forgotten password on xp
You don't have to wipe it and start again, so don't worry about that.
If there are other non admin accounts on that machine, try this program: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/lcp.html |

Re: forgotten password on xp
Try CTRL+ALT+DEL at the login screen to get to the normal login screen, type in Administrator as user name and if a password was used for it you would have to put it in, if you didn't install XP then sometimes the password is nothing so try leaving the password blank.

Re: forgotten password on xp
Best not to allow them access to an admin account at all to be honest. Too much damage can be done if you allow minors access to the administration accounts.
__________________ When it's installed again and accounts are setup you can always go to start menu, select run and type control userpasswords2 press enter use the dialogue box to click on the user account, select properties and then change the account to a power user in the group membership tab. Will restrict them a bit but might save you reloading windows on a regular basis. |
Re: forgotten password on xp
Oooh, if only you'd had a winboot cd or bart pe disk. You could've poped that in, booted of it and used the utility that resets all xp password. Has saved many customers at work from having to do anything like a reinstall and takes all of 5 minutes. http://www.ubcd4win.com/ everyone should make a copy.
