Are these the same images as found on google maps?
|
Re: Google Earth?
Quite possibly though I'm not 100% sure. I would expect them to be the same images rather than Google using and therefor paying for 2 different sets of images.

:( They get about don't they, Chi's car was keyed along the passenger side Monday night, we're hoping it will T-Cut and polish out. Why don't people respect other peoples property anymore? |
Re: Google Earth?
If you look at the UK as a whole, most of it is picked out in lurid green, while some strips are in a more muted colour. If you're lucky enough to live in one of the duller strips, those are the ones that have been imaged at a higher resolution.
I've just had another look at my place and for some reason it's even better now than it was before! Something to do with available bandwidth perhaps. |

I would attach the program to a post but it's 10Mb ;) I blame Zoom for breaking Google lol

IMO......if google improve their resolution and coverage, google earth will be one of the most widely used and interesting bits of software of all time. The reason that I say this is that I think it has enormous potential as a learning tool and as a navigation tool. It is immensely absorbing and has the potential to be very useful..........and that's as a beta! It will make the planet smaller and more 'accessible'! :nworthy: :) |
Re: Google Earth?
Hong Kong is fantastic! I found the house where my gf used to live. (Near Happy Valley racecourse, so easy to find)
|
Re: Google Earth?
See, sometimes I do post useful an interesting stuff ;)
|
Re: Google Earth?
uh oh, sorry folks, didn't want to break it :D
I'll try again later then, thought it may be the server or something. I turned off both PC & router firewalls (temp) didnt work. never mind, wont stop me sleeping. |
Re: Google Earth?
i could not find the great wall of china at all yesterday on the google earth program, I am going to try for longer today
ik |
Re: Google Earth?
They've suspended downloads again. And I've noticed when you use the app that it is taking longer to pull down images than it did yesterday. Methinks they're getting swamped!
|
Re: Google Earth?
Haven't tried it today, been busy (see my blog), but I have had no problems. Having said that, I did pay the subscription, so I might get priority somehow..

Still no luck and everyone else is getting on fine.
Think its time to give up and send a nasty feedback to the makers. This is not working for me and others I know within my town are on it. I I refuse to **** about with poor software. |

My pc is more then upto there spec's and Paul I would complain if they are pushing behond there abilities then, it does not make consumer sense I have downloaded a program and there was no warning of issues due to server load.

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2005/06/1.gif I've only just realised it's still in Beta so it's probably my fault for not realising sooner. I suppose you have done the obvious check any firewalls that are running routine? |
Re: Google Earth?
Aye I have checked all its permissions on Sygate Personal to no avail :(
Shame i really wanted to have a bash at this thing. |

Not as I know of Paul, I am going to try it in a minute without my firewall running just to check.

Re: Google Earth?
Is it the same error every time?
|
Re: Google Earth?
Yes, same one every time Paul.
|
Re: Google Earth?
I'm getting exactly the same error.
The support is no use, searching for the erro code produces no result. I've create a route through router, dropped firewall etc etc all the same. |
Re: Google Earth?

I'm assuming that activation is done by a seperate server and it is that one refusing connections, at the moment. ... |
Re: Google Earth?
I'm having the same problems as well.
Ruled out firewall so far. Can ping all of the relevant servers so that's not a problem either. SD, have you got any popup blockers installed? Apparently that can sometimes case an issue. I haven't, so that doesn't help me. |

No other pop up blockers installed. |
Re: Google Earth?
From this and another thread today it looks like they are trying to control new activations as it's swamping their servers.

Could someone else please try installing this and see if it will work for you? |
Re: Google Earth?
Now you tell me when I've just downloaded and installed it..Well it if it fails to work in the next 24 hours I'll uninstall it..After BOINC I refuse to deal with software where the servers keepbeing turned/falling over...Life is too short.
|
Re: Google Earth?
So there servers are doing the NTL CS Shuffle then?
|
Re: Google Earth?

If so, you lot who can't get on are unlucky, my dad signed onto it this afternoon for the first time and it let him on alright. He had to download the installer from an alternative location mind, ;) as Gooooooogle have shut theirs down ... perhaps their switching off authentication is to prevent people flooding the service after acquiring the installer over BitTorrent or whatever. |
Re: Google Earth?
$400........ that has to be a typo.
|
Re: Google Earth?
Quote:
Also I think the first time you run Google Earth it heads to the server to download certain data to enable the software to run (server locations, basic primary maps and images), if you don't have this basic data on your PC it can't then access any further information. The initial file size when you download Google Earth is about 10Mb but as soon as you access any point on the globe it immediately starts streaming image data to your PC..... lots of data lol Oh and the $400 subscription is a commercial service and those figures are annual fees too. |
Re: Google Earth?
Still no luck getting onto it, I bet the non-paying users get much lower importance on the servers so can see subscribing as a must have.
|
Re: Google Earth?
Did not work for me either, uninstalled it...
|
Re: Google Earth?
I'm going to persevere with it for a little while.....and then uninstall it :)
I'm getting really into the things that Google can do at the moment, frankly some of it is quite stunning. I'm looking into ways to use the Google Maps API in order to try and take my "Cable Forum Map" project forward - it all looks a bit mind boggling though so it could take a while :D |
Re: Google Earth?
Still no fricking luck. It's got until tomorrow pm an then I'm uninstalling it..
|
Re: Google Earth?
I agree I will uninstall it soon.
