freaky
Right I am sat at home with my new 5.1 Logitech x-530 speaker setup, and with nothing playing I can put my ear to my center speaker and listen to a conversation which sounds german/russian... :dozey:

Re: freaky
Shortwave radio pickup... try lining your house with 2" of earthed copper sheet :)
|
Re: freaky
This is often due to picking up interference in the airwaves.
Try relocating the speakers and also making sure cabling is not touching other cables. If you can replace the speaker cable with a shielded cable that is also shorter too, it may help eliminate the problem. Also try moving your cell phone away if it is nearby. Edit: A trip to maplins might get you some Ferrite Rings. These wrap round the cable or clip on at either end and can help to eliminate the RF inteference. |
Re: freaky
ERRRM why?
And does this mean when I get my £20 2way radios I could be picking up more conversations? __________________ Quote:
:dozey: I am more worried what they was speaking the word nuclear was clear enough :Yikes: |
Re: freaky
It could be a variety of stations, quite probably amateur radio too.
I guess you could take on the role of an MI6 agent though and become a spy if you really wanted to ;) |
Re: freaky
Was very freaky my gf even heard and understands they was talking about nuclear stuff, mainly reaction underwater etc before it faded into nothing.

Re: freaky
I'd be careful if I was you.
There will be MI5, the SAS, Jack Bauer, CTU, the FBI, all coming down to your part of the woods in the next few days. Burn everything. Move house. Change your name, dye your hair, and spray paint your car pink. Now head off and never return to your house ever again. They are watching you Mwahahaahaaa |

Re: freaky
Yup - shortwave radio, as others have said. At my parents' house when I was kid, I used to get what sounded like a Norwegian shipping forecast on my PC speakers. Very useful. Doesn't seem to happen with wireless headphones though.

Re: freaky
Remember also that the recent stormy weather has brought in much stronger shortwave signals than you usually get. Great if your a SWL; not so good if your getting RF breakthrough.
Halcyon's advice is good - move the cables around, shortening the length by wraping the cables back on themselves if possible, and/or thread the wires through some ferrite rings if that doesn't help. |
Re: freaky
I remember a letter in an Amiga magazine from someone who's monitor picked up police radio whenever a car went past. Once, back when we had a (wired) baby intercom in the house we picked up an extremely loud signal from a police radio in the pub opposite calling for backup.

Interesting facts... Japan are annoyed cause they wanted the contract, work on building the reactor will start in 2007, will take 10 years to build and another 10 to optimise it! ...and another 10 for us to fill out fuel cells up with water at home! ;) ..interesting facts your hear on the news! |
Re: freaky
The worlds Nuclear and bomb in the same paragraph came over today. I have a friend who works in the police coming over.
I hope this is just two geeks nattering about reaction processes and not something more serious. ( they do sound geeky voices) and not very grown up. |

Re: freaky
Its scary to think how much data is flowing through the airwaves every second.... So much is going on.
