the vote seems to be for 'okay'

now that would be interesting

Yeh right as if the company itself caused the mental breakdown.

I myself can blame NTL for many things but causing a mental breakdown hmm dream on there must have been other contributing factors.

:D

A big assumption there. Just because you don't believe a company can cause a mental breakdown, I've seen it happen to a close friend of mine, so don't be so quick to dismiss anything.

Just interested to see how many people on this forum actually work for NTL. Don't worry - i ain't no NTL spy or mole!

Personally, i think it's pretty cool that we have some NTL people here that we can turn to for advice/assistance if needed. So to all you NTL peeps: Thank you for your help! ;)

(And to all those that don't work for NTL but help out anyway - thank you too!) :)

Re: Do you work for NTL?

Like someone before I worked for them as an installation contractor. The company seemed a little more professional in their approach than Telewest. I would say that most of the people I had to contact seemed to have a work load that was too high, this is were large companies tend to fall down as in this type of environment people make mistakes which sometimes go unnoticed...unless your a customer on the end of it... :dozey: :dozey: :erm: :p:

Actually it was the company that caused it, he was a departmental manager but his workload was huge. No need for the insults thank you

I worked as a contractor for Kellys on behalf of NTL. Both muppets and a 3 year old could organise a company better than them!

So have I. Stress can cause breakdowns. A bad manager (or multiple bad managers) can cause an *awful* lot of stress.

As for whether NTL is a good company to work for, I have heard both sides of the story (more bad than good), but in my experience, most large companies aren't intrinisically either good or bad to work for. Whether they are good or bad depends on the line management.

Re: Do you work for NTL?

I did, and I didn't realise how bad things were until I left.

I was asked a couple of weeks ago as a bit of a joke, if I fancied applying for a job they were unable to fill :Yikes: The second word was Off!

It was funny really, as no one currently working for ntl and capable of doing the job would take the promotion. They all knew it would be promotion into a position on a last in first out basis, and they are all expecting further cuts in the department.

Poor morale at the level it is with most ntl employees in ntl is impossible to put right :(

Re: Do you work for NTL?

I really don't think the management believe there are any issues with morale, but from my own experience, and from interactions with other associates, it is at absolute rock bottom. There is great resentment and disbelief when we are sent group emails telling us how great things are and how were investing in associates and our network, because at shop floor level this couldn't look further from the truth. This makes management look completely unattached from what is going on, creates resentment and helps develop the deep rooted untrust in the ntl management which has grown steadily over the last five years.

Now don't get me wrong, I know ntl is a company and the only (or at least the main) reason for its existence is to make money for it's shareholders, but to do it in such a callous way and with such disregard for it's staff just ain't cricket!

I dont want to take the thread off in another direction, I agree with everything you say. However, I think the problem has been with the company from day one and not just the last five years. I think the big difference is that a high percentage of employees especially office/callcentre bound people would believe what they were being told by management i the past. I think the tide has turned as you say, and there is a much lower percentage now who believe when they are told that everything is rosey in the garden.

Re: Do you work for NTL?

I am sure most people who worked for the old franchised companies before ntl bought them out will agree that everything went pear shaped once ntl got involved. For instance, Comcast was an outstanding company to work for and as such received loyalty and dedication from it's staff. Two things which simply do not exist in ntl.

The internal campaigns launched by ntl to increase morale amongst it's associates and increase productivity have exactly the opposite affect. As I've stated previously it just underlines the ignorance of the management towards the feelings of their staff and causes frustration and resentment. Associates are left wondering how much money was spent on the latest campaign whilst also pondering why they aren't even receiving a cost of living pay rise - not a good combination. I am no business guru but to me a happy workforce is a productive workforce.

Morale was never good and there was plenty of bull**** on the agenda with CableTel. When CableTel bought out ntl, they seemed to spread all that was bad through the newly structured ntl company and onto the aquisitions.

I always have the view that good morale is very easy to loose, and turning this back around to good morale is almost impossible to achieve. I guess the steady and constant shafting that some departments have experienced from management will mean morale will never significantly improve, and that means customer satisfaction will never attain the levels it should.

I have worked for them before now:dozey: At one time it was really good there. It used to be almost fun going into work and you used to be almost proud to work for the 'then trendy' company. Then came that dotcom crash time (round about may 2001 I seem to recall) and it all went cr*p. Staff started to dissapear like autumn leaves in a hurricane :(
