Harry Potter
Who's a fan then and who cant wait to get their hands on the new book?
Personally my copy was ordered ages ago - but no doubt as its from Amazon it wont arrive until 2 weeks after release. Incidentally, whats the difference between the Adult and Child versions of the book? |

I've ordered mine from amazon - the last one turned up a day early here. The difference is a different cover. |

Re: Harry Potter
LOL,
So the idea is that even though its got Harry Potter plastered over the front the fact that it has a different picture makes them feel better - some peeps are too self concious. Actually - if that is the case its a bit daft... Childrens version... https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2005/07/13.jpg Adult version https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2005/07/14.jpg Is it just me or are the words Harry Potter even bigger on the Adult version :D. |
Re: Harry Potter
I've already got the childrens versions and I don't plan to change :)
Anyway this would make my set not match up. I think it's more the picture that some people have the problem with. |

Re: Harry Potter
I'm a fan but got into it late so all the books I've got so far are paperbacks (being a pikey cheapskate!) So I'll wait until the paperback version is available, than you very much! ;)

Re: Harry Potter
When order of the phoenix came out I went to ASDA at midnight and the staff brought out huge crates of the books dressed as witches, and they had their own 'aisle 9 and three quarters' :D

At least the characters no longer speak in statements!

Re: Harry Potter
I am a big fan and can't wait. I have just read books 4 and 5 again, made sure I remember everything that happened.
|
Re: Harry Potter
I am not much of a reader, but I like the films.

I like the films, can't be bothered with the books - but it's on order anyway for the missus. :)
|
Re: Harry Potter
I think the films are a poor by comparison to the books, i really enjoy reading them, half the fun is that your kinda there sneaking around with them (says the 29 year old :D). The films just dont give me the same feeling of immersion.
|
Re: Harry Potter
I'm a fan (as are the wife and kids) and I will probably head down to Asda on the night.
I enjoy the films just as much as the books - for the most part the directors has conjured up a similar environment as we imagined. |
Re: Harry Potter
I agree that the fims are good, dont get me wrong, im just saying the books are IMO, better.
|
Re: Harry Potter
I went to Asda at midnight last night to get my kids copy.
The things we do eh :) They had staff wearing a cape, wig, glasses & hedwig. now just need to wait my turn to read it, I'm 3rd in line despite it being me that bought it ! |
Re: Harry Potter
I have not read any of the books but I love the films :tu:
|
Re: Harry Potter
I've read all the others, can't decide whether to bother with this one or not.
When I moved at the end of last year I didn't bring the HP books with me, I'm tempted to buy the boxed set when it comes out but TBH I know that there'll be another new book in a couple of years so that'll screw the set up..... |
Re: Harry Potter
I couldn't be bothered to go out at night, so I went to Morrisons at 9am and they had plenty - only £7.95 for a '£16' book.
Read the first chapter - so far so good. |
Re: Harry Potter
Got it delivered straight to the door this morning from Amazon (8.99), not started it yet because im near the end of another book.
I might get a chance next week to start it. |
Re: Harry Potter

Re: Harry Potter
Never mind the spiler tag, please just DO NOT post any of the contents.
The spoiler tag is soo tempting to look at & some of us have to wait to read our copy :D I had to kick my daughter off the PC to get her to read it, ungrateful wench! :D |
Re: Harry Potter
I never preorder.I just waited until yesterday afternoon and ambled in and bought it for my son-who opted for the adult version now that he is nearly 17. :)
|
Re: Harry Potter
The copy I ordered from Amazon arrived yesterday morning.
|
Re: Harry Potter
Quite nice to see I am not the only grown man reading the books.
Although I can't honestly say they are children's books, judging by the content of books 3, 4, 5. Sinister to say the least. |
Re: Harry Potter
I would love to read them some day, its just I'm not much of a book reader.
I started the Philosopher's stone though and its amazing how much more detail you get than in the films. A friend of mine bought it straight away and was nearly half way through the book a few hours later. She's a big fan. |

They certainly got bigger & more developed after the 1st two books. Philosopher's Stone was just... too short. Chamber of Secrets wasn't much bigger. I guess after the success of the 1st two, JKR realised that a lot of adults read them too. |
Re: Harry Potter
Received the book yesterday morning, pre ordered it back in february.
Read a fair bit of it so far and i'm quite into it. It does seem a lot darker than the other books. but im not gonna give anything away. |

Personally, I just can't understand what all the fuss is about! The books and yes, I've briefly read the first paragraph or so of the first 'book' whatever it was called, isn't that good - even for a kids book. And why adults think its any good is beyond me, are they fighting against the ravages of time, or do they think its 'cool' ? This is my opinion and meant not to offend any 'grown-ups' on the forum. :p:  |

I for one prefer to save my judgements until I've read the whole thing. For the record, I've read all of the books (apart from the new one). Whilst they're not stunning in a literary sense, they are (nonetheless) good fun - and a fairly easily absorbed diversion. |
Re: Harry Potter
Harry Potter, I read two of them. And in my opinion it was poorly written and the story lacked anything that had not been done a thousands times before........Merlin the Wizard anyone!
But each to their own, they are great to prop a door open with though! :) |

Re: Harry Potter
They do get better after the first two, Neon :)
Bigger, with better developed plots & characters. Much better than the 1st two books. |
Re: Harry Potter
For me it is more about the world that the characters live in, somewhere amazing and wonderful, a bit of escapism. It is similar to something like Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia, a far away place full of magic and adventure that we all dream of but in the real world things like that will never happen.

The best way to do it, is to watch the first two movies to save reading the books, and then start on book 3 which is when it starts to get really interesting. Although, the movies may gloss over something in the book that might make something unclear in the latter books... |

The only 'childrens' book I've read and enjoyed, being the old grumpy man I'm rapidly turning into, was The Hobbit . Not a great book, but enjoyable none the less. Think I'll stick to video gaming as my last desperate attempt at staying young!LOL! :D |
Re: Harry Potter
I found this one a bit "Agatha Christie" and not as dark as the previous 2. Things do seem to be coming together nicely for the next one, trouble is it needs to be out now!!!
|
Re: Harry Potter
What books DO you like neon?
I've read all the books now, the latest taking only a day or so. I think they are written well, in thier own way, though I'm sure we could all question its literary value, there are some books that are not written as a piece of art as such, but purely to entertain, and that they do well! Latest book was good, though I disliked the ending, felt a bit as if shes tried to pad the book out a bit, and is missing things out. Can't say much more without giving hints |
