Good point, my monkey chum. How the hell does Henman get seeded 6th? It's not like he's got any chance of winning really, is it?

Tennis used to be ' good ', over the last 10 years or so it's lost all of it's appeal, IMHO that is.

But Henman at 6th? Nalbandian's down at 18th, and at least he's got to the final before!

And he really shouldn't have. Plus Henman's a grass player and Nalbandian's a claycourter. I also believe Henman (9th) is higher than Nalbandian (19th) in teh Entry which is used to generate the seedings.

They can move players around a few places to suit previous record, court type, etc etc but the Entry is basically the seedings.

Men's ATP Entry System
13 June:
1 R Federer Swi (seeded 1) 11 M Puerta Arg
2 L Hewitt Aus (seeded 3) 12 G Gaudio Arg
3 R Nadal Sp (seeded 4- clay and young) 13 T Robredo Sp
4 A Roddick US (seeded 2- grass (really hard) player) 14 G Coria Arg
5 M Safin Rus (seeded 5) 15 R Stepanek Cze
6 A Agassi US (withdrew) 16 D Ferrer Sp
7 N Davydenko Rus 17 I Ljubicic Cro
8 G Canas Arg 18 T Johansson Swe
9 T Henman GB (seeded 6) 19 D Nalbandian Arg
10 J Johansson Swe 20 C Moya Sp

Other British players:
39 G Rusedski 213 J Delgado
184 A Bogdanovic 221 A Mackin
205 A Parmar 260 D Sherwood
212 M Hilton 274 J Marray
CBA to do the rest but you get the point.

i'm enjoying BBC coverage of Wimbledon but has anyone seen the scoreboard in the top left hand corner?
As in previous years they have always included set scores e.g. 6-2 6-2 now all the BBC have done is set score games won and points, the BBC have made a stupid decision doing that i feel.
It has made it very confusing for the viewer

nffc 20-06-2005 23:27

Re: Official Wimbledon 2005 thread

Only the same as the real scoreboard.

David Sherwood was ace, shame our birds are rubbish as ever (yorkie)

I think he's absolute crap and totally over-rated. He gets so much support from everyone and everyone thinks he's going to win. He doesn't -he's just crap!

The thing about Tim Henman he gets so far and then it all goes wrong, and its the same every single year.

Nice to know that he can count on your support.

What makes you think he owes you anything anyway????

You look at the support the England football team get, If they had had anything like the success he's had over the last 10years then they'd all have knighthoods.

You may think he doesn't deserve your support, but he certainly doesn't deserve your crticism. What have you done that we can cheer about??

I think Henman is one of the better grass player around.

I wish there was an Irish player as good as him that I could get behind. (Tries to resist joke about getting behind Sharapova :erm: )

Gogogo 21-06-2005 15:44

Re: Tim Henman

I agree, I think the contribution by mike is very unfair. playing tennis at the level Wimbledon expects is no piece of cake. It takes practice, concentration, stamina, enthusiasm and support. Tim Henman is a good player, he does his best. As someone earlier said if the English soccer team were judged in the same way as some do on this forum none of them would be good enough.

Good luck Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski and the upcoming Scottish star Andy Murray.

Now, I am off to see cricket; England & Bangladesh play their 2nd ODI.

:)

6-4 6-2 6-2 win for murray and henman's on court now. 3-3 with serve, but henman's doing pretty **** at the mo.

Re: Tim Henman

i'm predicting an epic quarter final loss... but i'll still support him :)

Damien 21-06-2005 16:59

Re: Tim Henman

He is is danger right now. Whys does everyone think henman deserves there complaints? He doesnt own us anything, he plays for himself and rightly so. However he does hold the weight of the nation on his shoulders and has to put up with the media which bulid him up just so they can slate him when he doesnt win. He has a good record at wimbledon

Its annoying to see people sit back and take pleasure as they smugly slate henman when he loses.

Merged and placed in correct forum area :)

Re: [MERGED] Wimbledon 2005 thread

Actually, if you compare Henmans performancesa at Wimbledon to the English football teams' at 'Grand Slam' events (ie World Cup and European Championships), they're not much different.

Over the last, what, 10 years, Henman has had a chance and now gets to the Quarters or Semis, whereas England, over the last 10 tournaments (which I work out goes back to World Cup 86) are now consistently at least a quarter final team (although I do accept that they didn't qualify for the '94 World Cup ;) ).

It definately was a long match indeed with loads of twists and turns.
However Tim just couldnt make it this time. I do think he did some great shots though.

Not so sure. He definitely seems to feed off the crowd, a reporter said that too on TV. I think the buzz surrounding him can help him, rather than with Henman who it hindered. Two completely different personalities.

Yeah, it is such a shame :( I think he had given up completely 2 games into the final set.

I wonder how bad his ankle was? It was an amazing performance to keep up with a former finalist even on full strength.

Re: [MERGED] Wimbledon 2005 thread

Well he's certainly showing signs of being able to take his place as British tennis player...

Gallant loser, tried really hard, nice chap, etc. Perfect qualities to replace Henman.

nffc 25-06-2005 23:53

Re: [MERGED] Wimbledon 2005 thread

He'll be ace when he can get his fitness. Judy Murray / Erskine for the elder statesmen ;) has just been on SSN saying he was gonna play the Nottm Challenger :( but they've got WCs to Gstaad (Federer's home tournament) and Newport RI... so imo he'll probably go to Gstaad seeing as that's clay and Newport is grass.

Very very promising player though, his actual game has no obvious weaknesses barring his fitness.
