connection loss
hi
i have another problrm my internet connection keeps disconnecting randomly. the modem just stays the same, no lights flash or anything and if i simply unplug the usb cable from the modem to my pc and reconnect it works again. this is really annoying in the middle of pes4 match online. i cant figure out wat is wrong is it something to do with my computer or the service? |
Re: connection loss
If the lights on the modem aren't changing and connection resumes when you pull and replace the USB then it's probably PC based.
Have you got any firewalls that might be interfering with the connection? Are you restricted to USB or do you have a NIC installed? Does it happen only when you are using your connections in certain ways or randomly? |
Re: connection loss
you need to try a ethernet card in your pc the usb are renown for using up pc resources
You just beat me on that Paul lol:D |
Re: connection loss
its just randomly
and as i have x box live i use the ethernet 4 that |
Re: connection loss
could also be the pc is disabling one or more of the usb ports if u have a power schem enabled..
u can check if u have power management enabled on the usb ports by going to the control panel... double click the system icon,, then onto the hardware tab...then the device manager button.... at the bottom of the list there shoud be the universal serial bus controllers... if the list isnt expanded just click on the + symbol by the side of it to give you the usb root hubs. right click on each one ...if there's more than one... and choose properties... then click on the power management tab at the top... and untick the box for 'allow the computer to turn off this device' hopefully should sort it for u... or worth a try anyways... |
Re: connection loss
SACM or set top box?
|
Re: connection loss
i use cable modem
|
Re: connection loss
Have you checked your signal strength?
Also are you clean as far as virus, trojan and spyware etc are concerned? Does the connection drop even if only the PC is connected? |
Re: connection loss
50420 do i do this just on the usb root hubs

Re: connection loss
not 100% positive as to wether it would requiere a restart.. but it wouldnt do any harm i suppose
|
Re: connection loss
It doesn't as far as I know but normally the computer will only power down USB ports that aren't in use as it's part of power management.
|
Re: connection loss
anymore suggestions then
|
Re: connection loss
The same one I posted before, check your signal levels, you might have a problem there. Have you contacted NTL CS about this issue?
|
Re: connection loss

Re: connection loss

Re: connection loss
Should work, make sure you check in Internet Explorer that you aren't using a proxy on the connection. Also sometimes you have to reboot the modem for it to connect for some reason.

Re: connection loss
ok rebooted modem and test works but which results to look at
i got Upstream Transmit Power Level : 48.25 dBmV Downstream Receive Power Level : -2.3 dBmV |

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...t=26006&page=1 but Downstream SNR, Downstream Receive Power and Upstream Transmit power are good places to start. |
Re: connection loss
well these seem ok
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 48.25 dBmV Downstream Receive Power Level : -2.3 dBmV but not sure about this Downstream SNR : 31.3 dB |
Re: connection loss
Have you ever tried to connect the SACM to the PC via Ethernet to see if it still drops the connection? It would help eliminate the USB from the list of possibles.

The first version of XP did have a problem where if you didn't have a motherboard with an Intel chipset, it would randomly switch USB ports off. |
Re: connection loss
so do my results from the test look ok
also i have a printer connected by usb and that often dosent print saying theres a problem communicating with the printer and it works again if i unplug and replug it like the internet does |
Re: connection loss
Numbers look ok, nothing sticks out as beyond the thresholds.
That could be pointing to a USB based problem, have you thought about using the connection via ethernet and a router? |
Re: connection loss
well i may hav to
but is there anything else i can do if its the usb thats causing the problem |
Re: connection loss
You could try getting a PCI card with USB ports, they aren't expensive these days and if it is your USB chipset on the mobo failing it will give you a workaround.
