:Yikes:

It's 560Mb

I know that with BB people are less worried about file sizes but with something that big a little warning would be nice please ;)

Gareth 11-06-2005 02:40

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

Who cares about the size?!? It's Battlefield 2!!! Yippee!!!!!

jtwn 11-06-2005 02:55

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

Warning??? In IE it tells you the filesize before downloading ;)

And anyway, with the way how big stuff is nowadays and my love of hdtv, thats just a modest filesize :p: (take note isps!!!).

I have it downloading now, from all the wow responses on my MSN to those who have already downloaded it, sounds like a fun game.

Can anyone tell me with my PC specs should it run on my pc ( specs in sig )

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

Straffing dosent work correctly (you can't go forward and stafe at the same time) and the control setup is the worst i've EVER seen an absolute nightmare if you use something like a Nostromo N52, there are a number of glitches as well, i've been stuck going in a particular direction and its juddery one minute then smooth the next.

When it does work it looks good - but - it not really playable for me at the moment.

jtwn 11-06-2005 18:41

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

You can't *sprint* and strafe, if thats what you mean. You should be able to run and strafe.

512mb = lots of disk swapping.

For all you ATi owners out there - goto Catalyst 5.6 - this solved ALL my graphical problems (was using 5.2).

Oh and i managed to fiddle the controls.con file (eventually) to get it to accept the keys that i wanted to play with - still a crap control screen though.

There is a very helpful and informative tweak guide as well over at http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html.

I get that all the time, sometimes have to reload the game 2 or 3 times in one session due to that. Really messed up..

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

Yeah, this rocks. I'd go so far as to say it beats Call of Duty - let's hope CoD2 will be this good.

I have had a few technical problems however. Not sure that the demo is completely stable. I have run into problems mostly on the menu screens... sometimes I get the choice of playing single player or multiplayer, sometimes it just goes directly to multiplayer. Single player very frequently hangs my PC. But, when it does work, it's so God-damn-good that I forget all about those problems.

Definitely gonna be buying this one when it's released.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this runs on my laptop mix of medium, high and low settings for video, runs quite smoothe, doesnt look the best though, however my laptop is below the minimum spec for cpu clock speed and videocard memory.

1.5ghz Pentium M
64mb Radeon 9700Mobile
512mb RAM.

top marks to dice.

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

There is an issue with some ports needing to be open in order for server information to be recieved. Look at the BF2 website for further info. It leads to zero pings for certain servers. Maybe it's BF2 waiting for your firewall to allow X through??

Don't waste your time with it, if you're spending aroun £80-90 you may as well go for a 9700 Pro or 9800 Pro.

Where on earth did you hear that rubbish? The one 3dmark result I saw showed it as less than 8000 in 3dm05 and even that is contested. You'll be waiting a few years before you see anything that's "twice as fast as" 2 6800U's in SLI.

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

Same here.

Hopefully if the R520 lives up to the expectations in the real world, that will beat at least two of an x850xt.

I was set on buying an R520 next month depending on the price ( no way i'd spend > £300, 350 on it though).

However, right now I think it will be a waste of money, I'm going to hold out for a card supporting WGF 2.0 (I'm talking about the R600 here...) when I do a build of a socket m2 system. I can't see why anybody with a 6800u or X850xt will get the R520.

You're talking rubbish, go re-read that page and post where it say's it's double the speed of 2 6800 Ultra's in SLI, it "infers" it might match or better two 6800GT's but there's absolutely nothing in the shape of a benchmark, I'd suggest you read these things properly before coming out with such outlandish claims.

Was ment ot say it matches 2 not doubles 2. I got confused between the gt and ultras. But maybe 2 of these beasts in sli mode might achieve double. But it's not bad haveing 1 card that can achieve what 2 do

Steve H 22-06-2005 00:03

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

Whats your current stick?

Been playing this for a few days now, and loving it.

Does make CSS seem slightly dull, but for some reason after a game of BF2, I love jumping on CSS just for a change.

Whats this deal with keys??

Will hopefully be getting the full release next week, kinda skint at the mo what with exams finishing and beer hitting the wallet ;)

For now the demo shall suffice :)

What new things are in the full release? More vehicles? More aeroplanes?

How are you finding flying the jets and the heli's btw ? I'm getting better with the Jets, heli's are aweful though just seeeem soooo slow.

Can't wait to transfer my clan to this game :)

Gareth 22-06-2005 00:08

Re: Battlefield 2 Demo!!

The keys are for the *cough* evaluation version *cough* that is doing the rounds, not the demo version.

I know what you mean about switching back to 'inferior' games after a bit of BF2... I find it funny to go back to the original CS, although IO can only play that briefly now before it starts doing my head in.

Yeah - but sticking to the same brand is advisable.

What's so bad about opening the case up? Mine's permently open at the moment because my CPU cooler is knaff and running very hot (up to 79 degree's a few nights ago :O), Cooling it down with a desktop fan intermittantly lol
