Is anyone else experiencing freezing on the ITV channels? Thanks.

Re: ITV Channels.

Did you contact CS about the problem? Does it happen to any other channels or is it just ITV and what ITV area are you in? No problems here but then we are on Sky :erm:

No haven't telephoned CS. It's ITV London Carlton / LWT.

Re: ITV Channels.

Calling CS might help, it could just be a signal problem that they can identify from their and resolve or it might be that you need a call out booked. Not calling CS will just drag the problem out and wind you up even more :)

If you are having problems, please report it to NTL. I am not saying people on here are not willing to help (they are, and have proved it many times), it's just you cannot guarantee that any NTL employees with the ability to do something about the problem will be around. If it's a problem covering an area, NTL will probably already know about it, but it's best to report it again anyway. If it's a problem specific to your installation, they probably won't know about it.

If they don't know there is a problem, they will not fix it.

If you phone NTL and tell them about it, you KNOW they know about it, then the ball is in their court.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll do it tomorrow if it's still doing it.

And then you can come back here and moan if they don't sort it out lol Seriously though, ring CS and speak to them, if one of our helpful NTL peeps see your thread then they can double check what's been done to resolve and may even be able to sort it for you if it's something that frontline CS cannot see or fix.

Tomorrow? What's wrong with now? The sooner you call the sooner it can be sorted.

How are these channels itv2,ch4,itv3 and e4+1 if these are the same as itv it could be a levels trouble on one freq.

Re: ITV Channels.

ITV2 was doing it, not checked CH4 E4and+1. But someone posted that their CH4 was sticking.

I have exactly the same happening here in Nottingham - I have called CS twice - 1st call got me a box refresh that didn't help - 2nd call got me an engineer visit booked for tomorrow am. Not too bad service at all really as it is only a mildly irritating fault and I can still watch tv - Thanks folks!

whats the point of ITV again

Re: ITV Channels.

I too had ITV2 freezing, jittering, blanking etc only for a couple of seconds at a time but quite frequently (say every 5 or 10 minutes) last night when I was watching "Chancer" (don't laugh, I liked that series! ;)).
Most of the other main channels I checked around that time seemed OK.
Nothing unusual in the STB error log. I suspect the problem might have been at the source perhaps.

Re: ITV Channels.

Must be a fault with ntl then. It's getting annoying. I can see a SKY dish being erected very soon me thinks.

last night ITV2 kept jumping here....no idea about today as I haven't had the tv on

Buxom woman tells me there's been problems with e4 and ch4 as well as itv over the last few days.

This is on NTL and SKY by the way :)

Did you contact them to get it sorted? Believe me Sky is no better for crappy signals sometimes ;) We quite often suffer signal drops/ stutters etc. If you contact NTL you will stand little chance of getting the issue resolved, sometimes it's not even NTL's fault but the signal provider who is causing the problem.

No, I'll do it as soon as I get in from work at 4pm, but it sounds to me looking at Dilligaf1701, that it's a Network fault not just NTL.

Like I said it's not always NTLs fault lol. Calling them early in the morning is better than late in the afternoon as you are more likely to get through quickly :erm:

Re: ITV Channels and CH4 E4 and E4+1

Two weeks down the road and it's still freezing and it's not just my box doing it. What's going on NTL?

jonifen 10-06-2005 07:22

Re: ITV Channels.

So I assume you've contacted NTL since your previous post?
What did they say?
Did an engineer attend your home to diagnose/resolve?

shredder 10-06-2005 08:51

Re: ITV Channels.

The problem revolves around the Big Brother ETV (red button functionality). The problem is that this extra bandwidth is causing the transport stream to max out and whilst the mux is trying to figure out what info to drop (should be EIT (now & next info) it is momentarily locking up resulting in an apparent judder to the picture.

In simple terms we dont have the network capacity on this equipment to cope with the throughput of data required

ouch!
So this extra bandwidth that would be used by the BB interactive nonsense... would people only be affected by people connected to the same green cab using this interactive service? Or is it a global issue not induced by people using the interactive service?

Cue the directors saying "only 2hrs of BB interactive allowed per day" (sorry... couldn't resist :D)

COOPERMAN 10-06-2005 13:10

Re: ITV Channels.

So you're saying until that crap Big Brother finishes, we've got to put up with freezing pictures. That's not on. I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of NTL.

shredder 10-06-2005 13:21

Re: ITV Channels.

There was an attempt yesterday to change the Big Brother ETV application, this reduced the number of errors apparent on the muxes, but the judder is still evident on screen. it is still being worked on

Seems to be better yesterday evening, so I'll see over the next few days whether to contact ntl.

I take it from this that you have not contacted NTL over this ?.

jonifen 11-06-2005 14:53

Re: ITV Channels.

To be honest, I would seriously consider contacting NTL and speaking to them about it before making your decision to go elsewhere for your TV service.

If you dont log it as an issue with NTL, you cannot be 100% sure it is not a case of the fault being both a local and semi-global issue. Yes, it has been said that it is an issue with your area, but if there is a case of poor signal to your STB it could be doubling up this error and making the issue worse.

Re: ITV Channels.

No need now. I think it's been fixed. Hasn't frozen at all yesterday and today on ITV1 and CH4 and I've watched Hollyoaks on E4 and that didn't freeze either. Thanks for the advice though.
