I try to clean it up, lasts about 2 days before it's back to the norm.. tbh, I prefer it this way really :confused:

Kin'hell. I usually just move the shortcuts onto the taskbar which I usually add a bit more height to to accommodate the shortcut bars- and if something installs and adds shortcuts to the desktop, I delete them if it's something I don't use.

As for files, they are downloaded separately by my download managers which helpfully chuck it all into one directory, which then I have to tidy and see what the heck is in there every so often.

Pain in the neck.

my desktop is so cluttered that if i removed items from it the next time i restart or change the icons setting it will be replaced by another icon :p:

Mines hardly cluttered I like to see my wallpaper, I store alot in folders in my documents which I spend hours organising.

I have about 10 shortcuts and thats it. Just the handy ones like Games (inc links directly to NTHW PC Servers), Thunderbird, FF, My Docs, My Comp etc.

This is only 1 monitors desktop AND I tidied it up recently & halved the amount of icons.

The colours are only quite recent - At school, we used to have some old macs, and, at the desktop, you couldn't tell which ones had colour screens, and which had monochrome. They've come a long way. I bought a mac mini a few weeks ago, and was an instant convert. I dread having to use my windows laptop now.

Anyways, should probably get back to revising now!:o:angel::mad:

i have around 100 items on my desktop - that's the whole point of having a desktop!


incidentally, anyone who uses a screen res of 1280x1024, do you actually have a 5:4 display or is everything squished? it seems a weird choice to me... :shrug:

Steve H, I see you have an icon on your desktop called "Ladyman1". You really should have removed your pr0n first ;)

Here are my main 2 screenies. I normally start to act when I get on my 4th or 5th line. My start menu drastically needs sorting, it is already off the screen.

I use Object Dock Plus from www.stardock.com its a great piece of software keeps your PC so much neater, you can have multiple docks and popup transparent docks, etc. Its Windows XP Pro with Style XP and StarDock ObectDock

In just use a blank desktop... anything i wanna run is either in the first section of my start menu, or i jsut type its command in the run box (win key + r)

That's just wrong. As is having it full.

I have... the usual biz- my comp, documents, network places, the bin, i've made shortcuts to my pics and music, and the download directory, and the rest is just teh mozilla stuff (firefox, thunderbird, sunbird), IE :( and a few things I've installed recently and haven't got round to tidying off yet.

Basically, the things I use most often.

Don't even have that ;) Anything I need close to hand is on the quick launch, the rest is in my start menu which is neatly sorted to make it easier to find things.

You need "WindowBlinds". Try http://www.wincustomize.com/index.aspx

You are limited as to how much you download from this site but I think about 50mb is free after which you need to buy one of the Stardock programs.:)

I do not use any program to install my themes, I use a uxtheme.dll patcher from neowin, then I download themes from Neowin or themexp.org and extra to c:/windows/resources

Works a Charm.

an untidy desktop defeats the point of shortcuts, as you have to search for the icon, be quicker selecting it from the menu

My most commonly used programs get automatically put at the front of the windows menu bar so I just quickly launch them off that.
I cant stand a cluttered desktop.
I also feel it loads faster when uncluttered.

Printscreen and then do a CTRL+V to paste into Paint, save as JPEG, upload file to thread ;)

mines has about 15-20 on it. I dont see the point in having many more otherwise they are not really shortcuts if i have to go hunting around them to find something
