Firefox questions
Lo all..........couple of questions.
How do I get rid of the 'bookmarks toolbar' & can anyone point me to a good FF spellchecker? :dunce: |
Re: Firefox questions
Right click next to the address bar and untick Bookmarks Toolbar.

Re: Firefox questions
Glad you decided to move to Firefox Ramrod. :)
Out of interest, does anyone use Portable Firefox? http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/ I installed it on my USB key the other day and now use it when I'm in work or college - the ability to use the same set of bookmarks and cookies is excellent. I recommended it to my mates who thought it was really useful. :) |

Toolbar themes?
If you want themes then go here: https://addons.mozilla.org/themes/?application=firefox |

Re: Firefox questions
If Firefox is supposed to be standards compliant, how come it can't render this properly?

As you can see by the screenshots, Firefox is much closer than IE: |

the first link in that page just links to the same page but further down, and the second link links to somewhere else, so it seems, I will check the code later, just about to go out for a few. ik EDIT: and my IE6 does not render it correctly, and get an error |

Re: Firefox questions
Like I just said, I'm not interested in how well it renders it compared to IE, I asked if Firefox was supposed to be fully standards compliant, is it or isn't it?

Anyway, Firefox is not as standards compliant as Safari and Opera but all 3 are light years ahead of IE. I know which I'd rather develop for, IE wastes so much of my time in work it's unreal. |

Re: Firefox questions
Fair enough.
Here's a handy site which has several tables of browser CSS compliance: http://www.westciv.com/style_master/...owser_support/ |
Re: Firefox questions
Next question.......why can't I click on/select a smilie or bring up the rep box using FF? :dunce:
|
Re: Firefox questions
you need to enable javascript, in options/web features
you might want to go to 'advanced' and uncheck the things you dont want webstes to be able to do, if you enable it. |

For the record, here are shots from the latest versions of Firefox, Konqueror (the basis of Safari) and Opera. Running Linux, so I can't test MSIE. |
Re: Firefox questions
Ouch, Konqueror and Opera don't handle that very well.
That surprises me because I always thought that Konqueror (the KHTML engine is used in Safari on Mac) had better support than Gecko. |

Re: Firefox questions
Next question...........
How do I (is it even possible) put the toolbar that contains the back/forward/refresh buttons and the address area/bar thingy up a level so that all that is next to the file/edit/view/go bookmarks etc buttons? |

This is why I love FF.
If you don't like some part of it then you can change it to exactly what you want! :) |

I can see that this is all gonna go horribly wrong..... :erm:

try to right click your google toolbar, to see if this gives you an option to move where it sits on your browser. in Failing that, click view > toolbars > customised there you should see small box with everything on your browser screen and if you left click and hold your google toolbar, you may be able to move it around your browser. it all depends if there is enough space or not. you could also try to find out in the user.css if you can customize the google toolbar as well, and just change values that may deal with the google toolbar, but I don't have the google toolbar, as I prefer the quicksearch box that is standard with firefox. ik |
