You can get the old creative live boxes that used to be bundled in the 5.1 platinum set,but cheap wouldn't be the way to.Is it for your pc?

I havn't tried one, myself, but if I was buying a new sound card I would seriously look at this one

http://www.cannings.co.uk/acatalog/t...oundcards.html

- mainly for the coax 5.1 output, which suits my speakers.

just buy a 3.5mm stereo jack to double 3.5mm jack socket, leave you headphones plugged in and turn speakers off when you want to use headphones.
All 3 sets of speakers I own have there own headphone jack socket on the front somewhere

Okay but I am also trying to ditch the AC97 as apparently it has massive CPU overheads?

Have you checked out www.FrontX.com? They have some cool adapters to move your audio/USB/firewire I/O to the front of your pc.

:welcome: to the site

most system cases allow for routing of mic and line out usb and sometimes firewire to the front of the case
The cheapest way to solve the op's original problem is to simply put a 3.5mm jack doubler into line out plug and leave speakers in and plug and leave headphones in,simply turn speakers off when you use headphones
cost about 50p
