The Cable Forum Exit Poll

AKA, The election results for the Constituency of Cable Forum. :D

Please vote and tell us who you voted for. We want to try to get a definitive exit poll, which means there is no 'I didn't vote' option, but if you did abstain, please say so in the thread.

Don't worry, you'll have plenty of opportunities in your lifetime. I was lucky enough to be 19 when I got to vote in my first general election, so I didn't have too long to wait.

I've not voted today yet, but my polling card is in the glovebox of my car, and I'm planning to call in on my way home this evening.

Re: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

I'm a self employed person with a fast dissapearing personal pension so no surprise I voted Conservative.Unfortunately, due to the last boundary changes, what used to be a solid Tory seat has been lumped in with a large part of Oldham, so it is now a fight between Lab & Lib Dems.
I do not doubt that Labour will win due to the anomolies of our electoral system, and in some ways I take a perverse pleasure in this. The economic disasters that are building up in this country will be laid fair and square at their door.:(

Re: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

As I saw on the TV last night, even if the tories do get a larger proportion of the votes, the electorial boundaries are now expected to be weighted against them. Apparently it's much easier for Labour to get / stay in.

Gerrymandering at it's finest.

Personally I think the whole country should boycott todays voting as a stand for the 1000's denied voting rights as councils have taken so many of the electoral role for no good reason.

And all take the day of work aswell juts to stick the boot in :P

No voting here, unlikely Labour would get unseated anyway in my area and if they did then it would be just another jerk off from an opposing party, same s**t different wrapping

However, it is allowed to listen to representations from the public and other interested bodies. And from what I heard, Labour did an extremely good job of being interested, and lobbying for favourable boundaries, which the 'apolitical' muppets at the Commission seem to have swallowed without much consideration for their likely motive. The Tories, meanwhile, seem to have been caught with their pants down and played little part in the process (which, incidentally, took place quite some years ago now).

A few years ago the Lib Dems were pushin proportional representation. I heard nothing of that this time round.

Would be interesting to know what government we should get if we were simply able to total all the votes across the UK, rather than consituency based system we do have. Will any one party, or even parties be able to stand up and say "we wuz robbed".

It is in their manifesto, but they have finally realised that bleating about the electoral process is not a vote winner and have spent their time talking about issues people actually want to consider for a change. I have been impressed with the Lib Dem campaign this time round, easily their most professional yet.

(The only thing that irritates me is how they wheel out Liberal Girl, their trophy by-election-winning teenie, at any and every opportunity - she's going to make a William Hague of herself if she's not careful).

The Lib Dem position is to hold a referendum on electoral reform, not to change to PR automatically.

Funny you should say that, I was thinking the same thing. In the Lib Dems eyes, she represents what they stand for, but more importantly presents herself well. She is young, attractive, smart, and comports herself brilliantly (something that increasingly large swathes of her political persuasian fail to do). In the Lib Dem's eyes, the only way she'd be more of an asset is if she was black/asian.

Edit: I would say that Charlie puts a bit of undue pressure on this, because it seems that the party rides on Charlie AND her, but TBH, that's her problem to deal with. She maybe young, but we can't patronise her for it.. She'd have to work as hard, with the stress level as someone twice her age.

Well, I voted last week (postal vote) so I have added my choice to the exit poll. I voted Conservative as I live in a safe Tory seat, but I did not want Labour to get in the back door.

If I had lived in the next road but one (Cambridge constituancy) I would have voted LibDem to give the Labour MP a run for her money! :)

Charles Kennedy came out very well in a Newsnight exercise involving undecided voters. Very high vtrust factor though not strong on perceptions of handling a crisis. Personally I think the LDs have fought a very good campaign - regardless of whether you agree with their policies - because they've largely avoided the childish and opportunistic baiting that Labour and the Tories have pettily indulged in. They've not been afraid to present challenging policies - eg 50% tax band - and I think may do well, in terms of proprtion of vote, as a result. Of course our stupid democratic system will once again see a govt elected on a minority vote. Nuts.

Unfortunately not. We can use the poll results on the BBC website to find out what the Commons would look like based on our votes, but for that to work we can only take into account votes actually cast in favour of one party or another, otherwise the percentages don't work out properly.

Sorry!

You can explain your democratic choice in the thread though. :)

Thank you :) I'm housebound at the moment..... so unless i get a lift to the polling stn, which looks possible, i won't be able to vote. If that's the case, i'll have to exercise my democratic right by lobbying........ joy! :erm:

I didn't mean to imply that i would be spoiling my ballot paper..... but it IS something that i'm considering. At this present time, given the other choices in my constituency and possible stratigic voting possiblities, putting a great big cross through the whole of the paper would make me feel better :p:

For me, registering discontent in this way is better than not voting at all :)

Re: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

I fully intend to vote later on, but how about putting an "I did not vote" option on the poll? I have been known to refuse to vote (as I didn't like/trust any of the candidates) in the past.

Having said that, my area is conservative, and has been in every election (apart from one, when it was hung) since the borough of Bromley was created. So, the chances are, whatever I vote, we will have a Conservative MP.

Well, I did what I was supposed to. I voted Tory, but TBH I don't feel brilliant about it because:

1) I am in a safe Tory seat, apparently, so even if I didn't vote I doubt it would have made a difference

2) Labour are going to win anyway, so 4-5 more years of the same :mis:

Still, least it gave me a reason for a walk. There was no exit poller there though.

Thank you :) I'd forgotten they would do that...... never had to get a lift to the polling stn since it's only 10 mins walk away

Whilst i may be cutting off my nose to spite my face...... i'd rather die than get in a car with any of the candidates or their cronies... unlike other years, we've had NO ONE canvassing at our door this year, which i'm pleased about, but at the same time am wondering why not. Well you're not the first person to have said that i've pushed them over the edge but at least this was in a good way ;) :D

It was an incredibly useful reminder and deserved a rep :) We tend to forget that there are options available to us if we exploit certain people/services in the same way that they exploit us ;)

Let's face it....... if there was a political party you particularly despised, you could tell them that you really wanted the opportunity to vote for them but couldn't get to the polling stn....... take the lift and then vote for someone else :naughty:

Not very ethical....... but that's politics :D

Re: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

I''ve still got to go and vote and even though I'm in John Majors old seat and its a solid blue vote, it's not putting me off voting (an I won't be voting Tory either!)

I think my old head of sixth form put it best.
'If you don't vote then you've got no right to complain about whoever gets in.'

He was very good at encouraging us to vote without promoting any party.

Besides with turnout at around 59% (last time) if _EVERYONE_ who didn't vote voted, then the politcal map could be substantually different 41% of the vote would almost certainly put anyone in, regardless of who won last time and what majority they had.

I'll be voting LIBDEM in any case. I know I'll be worse off regardless of whoever gets in, but at least they're being honest about it.
Unlike the Torys and Labour who are claiming respectivly that the extra money can be magic'd up from somewhere or isn't actually needed.

I voted Lib Dem - at 07:15 this morning :Yikes:

Went in on the way to customer site in Wales (Polling station is about 100yds from my house ;) )

Lib Dems will cost me more money (50% bracket etc), but seem to have some sensible policies as regards the health service and education (with a first child on the way, those are now very important to me). Also I hate the council tax, and they seem to have a fairer way to do this as well.

We had a flyer through the door from each of the main parties, but no canvassing, and my wife has been at home on maternity leave, so its not link they came round when we were not in...

I get the feeling sometimes that the candidates in our area can't be arsed to come round to see people who they think have already made up their minds.

Re: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

Well, I won't get to vote until I'm almost home this evening, and as I'm unlikely to get online after that, I'm going to vote in our exit poll now, as I have decided who I'm voting for.

I'm going Lib Dem. This is a big thing for me, as I have never before transferred my vote to another main party. I've declined to support the Tories in the past (Referendum Party in 1997!) but never looked hard at the people and policies on offer and decided to move elsewhere.

The straw that broke the camel's back was an 'election communication' from the moron Tory candidate in our constituency (Stirlingshire), that went along the lines of 'by now you have received the council bill for your band G property' .... and followed by some scare stories about Revaluation (which is not currently scheduled to happen at all in Scotland) and Local Income Tax.

Once I had finished having palpitations and reminded myself that this idiot could not possibly know more about Council Tax band of my house, and that my house is in fact Band D, I got very angry. If he can't put a positive case for his own policies, and can't even get his facts straight, then he doesn't get my vote.

The Lib Dems get it because I agree with a lot of the sensible things they are proposing and they offer a referendum on some of the things I don't agree with them over (the Euro, for example). Meanwhile Mrs T is voting Lib Dem because she thinks it's appalling how certain sections of the media keep sneering at Charles Kennedy for being tired when he has a newborn baby in the house. As somone who's set to become a father again in the next month, I have a great deal of sympathy for him too!

I think that might actually benefit the country as although they appear to be a bunch of ******s with really daft policies, it would help to give both Labour and Conservative 5 years of non government.

Re: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

Well I voted,
Didnt recon much to any of the parlimentary votes. I picked Conservative, mainly because the candidate is the only one I have seen doing anything and as much as I like the current Labour MP, I'm afraid she represents a party that i dislike immensly.
Call it a wasted Vote, however if by voting tory, I do anything to alarm Mr Blair then my job is done.
I really think there is very little between labour and the conservatives, lib dems, well I think most of their policies were utter rubbish and I personally found it incredible they had the audacity to stand up and speak about some of them!

For the record I shall be immensly surprised if Labour are voted out, and I think really only the tories have the backing to mount such a challenge.

Our local elections were better though, we could pick 3 candidates and funily enough thjere were 3 for the Thornaby independant party, so I voted for all three :)

MP result is not valid

This happened to me during the last election that I was registered in Northampton. At the time I was living in Cambridge but me and the missus got our postal votes trough but the envelopes had different numbers on (they were all supposed to match) we called them up (this was 14 DAYs before the election) and asked what to do (as they would count as spoiled) and they said put them in an envelope and send them to the returning office detailig the problem and they'd be replaced.

HA HA HA!

Saw nothing despite ringing them several times, the election came and went wrote to complain and basically got told we don't know who dealt with the issue and we had a number of temps in over the election period to cope with the extra work and we're doing nothing about it...

Passed it all to the local Rag (figuring they'd be interested) bugger all didn't care one bit....

Thankfully......... only a BNP member with a deathwish would stand for parliament in Brent  But then being the child of foreign nationals, it might have made for a very interesting car ride ;)

In my constituency i would have had the choice of these parties.....

Liberal Democrats
The Labour Party Candidate
2x Independent
Green Party
The Conservative Party Candidate

or wait for it........

Vote for Yourself Rainbow Dream Ticket :erm:

Think a lift with the last candidate would have been the most interesting one..... given the policies i've seen....... scary but interesting :D

My brother's (definitely raving monster loony) taking me now anyway...... so toodle loo :p:

Its fixed anyway.
I'm pretty disgusted that if people who are indeed on the electoral role, yet havent received their polling card, cannot vote, then a re-count MUST be declared.
I urge people to complain about such poor organisation, theres a nursing home my aunt works at, there are 75 elderly people living there, not one of them has received a polling card, yet they like my grandmother could vote at the regional assembly poll.

Absolutely disgusting!!!

If they have not received a polling card because they are not registered to vote then I agree with you.

If they are registered but have not received a polling card they can still vote - they just need to go to the polling station and say who they are and where they live.

Lib Dem - I know it's wrong, I know it's silly, but it was a vote against Tony Blair - and I don't live in Sedgefield.

lol @ homealone.. scrapping the council tax gets my vote hand down,. .the lib dems have some very brave policies that have to be applauded.

I would love to see lib dems be the oposition party... but alas.. it won't happen...

Results

Start comming in at around 10:30 pm you will have a good idea of who is likly to win at 2am.. and its all done and dusted pretty much by 5...

I voted Conservative nationally and Lib dem locally. I have never agreed with what Tony Blair has done to this country. Hopefully we might not look so smug tonight.!

We might not look smug?

Just taken the baby out to vote, but they wouldn't let him, so he gave them an empty raisin packet instead while I put my cross in the box. Notch up another one for Charles Kennedy and the boys - they won't get in (solidly Labour round here, with a five-figure majority) but the bigger the LD vote nationally the better. This election is only really about how big a majority Blair gets, and thus how appalling his gang can be for the next four years.

Pretty annoyed, due to several house moves over the last year my name was only added to the roll on Tuesday. Just been up to vote but apparently my name has to have been registered from the 19th of April. There probably is a good reason behind it, at least I hope there is, otherwise there will be hell to pay. At least I tried :(

I'm still obviously jetlagged as I've totally cocked up my vote and want to go back and redo it :erm:  Wonder if they'll let me do it  Anyway this is a Labour stronghold so my vote wouldn't make much difference anyway but it's the principal that matters

(confesses to voting Labour and didn't want to, I'm a Tory at heart) :Sprint:

I wonder how representative this is of the nation as a whole?

I know that th limited numbers here couldn't really be called an accurate cross-section but if these figures are to be believed then Tony is gonna have a run for his money.....

Voted Labour - I think a lot of people round here will vote LibDem as a protest vote, so I wanted to make sure the sitting Labour MP stayed in.

Can't think of anything more pointless than a LibDem vote - except maybe a LibDem MP ;)

Millay 05-05-2005 21:13

lol cookie, nothing wrong with Lib Dem.. but then i suppose people can be easilly disolushioned with the spin that surrounds labour ;) :D

I hope we see some intersting moves towards lib dems tonight.. certinaly gonna make intersting viewing whatever happens..

Anyone else see this?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politi...nd/4518189.stm

One of them is my constituency - luckily I wasn't affected, but it's a bit worrying. They did take a while to find me on the list this evening!

Edit: After checking on www.chiswickw4.com, it seems it was Irish citizens who were wrongly put in the category for EU countries (who don't have a vote here) - Ireland is different, their citizens are allowed to vote in general elections. There are loads of Irish around here (3000 apparently), a friend of mine from Sligo lives just over the border in the next constituency, so would presumably have escaped. I don't expect the Labour majority will fall that much, but it's still a cock up.

That would be a strange world to wake up to tomorrow!

OK, we are now back down to a 172 LibDem majority.

I heard that Tony Blair and Michael Howard both phoned local radio stations.

Tony Blair requested for "I'M HOLDING ON" by SIMPLY RED
Michael Howard requested that the voters take STEPS and cast their votes for A DEEPER SHADE OF BLUE

EDIT

Since then the Chancellor phoned in and requested GOLDEN BROWN by THE STRANGLERS

Well, only four results in so far, but the Lib Dems are making a good show of it. Not as good as our exit poll, but good nonetheless. The pundits are already starting to say that things are worse for Labour than even the BBC exit poll has suggested.

Excellent.
