e mail size limit?
Someone stupidly sent me an e mail without compressing its attached photos. The total size was about 10mb. I then got a message from 'admin' saying that my e mail storage was 'over the high water mark' and asking me to delete some messages.
Unfortunately I deleted the admin message as I thought it might be a fake. I'm now wondering whether the above was genuine and whether ntl have an e mail size/storage limit. I'd be grateful for comments. |
Re: e mail size limit?
I think there is a limit on the amount you can have in your mail account, the email was probably genuine.

Re: e mail size limit?
Think the limit is 10meg

Re: e mail size limit?
Grab your mail over pop3, then you save the mails on your computer and they are deleted from the server when grabbed.

Re: e mail size limit?
The e-mail was genuine. :D

Could you please explain? Thanks |
Re: e mail size limit?
Its probably how your email is setup already, u open outlook/express and you click Send/Receive and your emails get downloaded.

Re: e mail size limit?
Does anyone know if the 10mb limit still applys if you are grabbing by pop3?
|
Re: e mail size limit?
Yes it does. If you leave your inbox to get full without emptying it then itll eventually fill up and your emails will start bouncing.

Re: e mail size limit?
Your e-mail has a 10Mb limit and the high water e-mail goes out at 7.5Mb
As far as I am aware the top limit is not fixe too hard so as prevent you getting the said mail. |

If you are getting your mail by pop3 then you need to change the settings "leave message on server" or the time it is left on the server for, often set for 7 days. |
Re: e mail size limit?
Thanks very much for all the info. I always empty my inbox after reading my e mail (or move it elsewhere if I want to keep it). The problem in this case was obviously caused by the one enormous e mail so it shouldn't happen again. (Plus my paranoia over e mails I don't recognise!)

but that was quick i think just took you about 3-4 mins i guess but i know both of you have got new e-mail accounts now ha ha ha ha |
Re: e mail size limit?
I'm not even going to explain why sending emails of that kind of size is utterly moronic :) FTP = File Transfer Protocol, it's an absolute godsend, especially as it can send binary without having to expand its' size by 1/7th.

If you do want to post a link, and are not sure, send it via PM to a mod. They can advise you. BTW, if you regularly send mails of that size, it would be better to set up an FTP site somewhere and send people a link. |
Re: e mail size limit?
Why is NTLs inbox limit set at 10Mb?. Even hotmail has a 250Mb limit (not suggesting that as a limit - far too big). I usually get my emails through Outlook (and broadband connection) but sometimes I have to use dialup and webmail when away from home for a few days. Any large emails with photo attachments I get the Inbox full warning and the email is deleted.
NTL may be worried about everyone having full Inboxes, but a limit of 10Mb does seem small these days. |
Re: e mail size limit?
OK, so have ntl set a limit of 10MB on the total size of our mailboxes, but is there a limit on the size of email I can send FROM my ntl email address to an address at another isp?
For example, could I send an 11MB email from my ntlworld address to a hotmail address (assuming my hotmail account has got enough free space to receive it)? Thanks. |
Re: e mail size limit?
the size of your inbox is 10meg.
If your timeout allows, you can send larger files to other mail servers. |
Re: e mail size limit?
just like ntl have limits on size of emails, so do most ISPs. Although now commonly used to send large files, email was never intended for such use.
