Got my new rig finally!

In the end I went for:

Athlon 64 3800+ Venice
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9
2x512mb Geil pc3200
Gigabyte Radeon X800 XL
36.7Gb WD Raptor 10,000rpm

What does anyone reckon?

I'm well excited, finally I'm getting rid of my Athlon 1.4Ghz and Geforce 3 system.

Does anyone have any advice as to make my life easier with the install? Lessons learned etc?

Cheers.

ONLY 37GB of HDD space!? With your new rig and all the new games youll be wanting to play youll fill that in a matter of days.

should be straightforward, all i can say is make sure to put the heatsink on before you install the mobo, so you dont bend it if it turns into a wrestling match...

Re: Got my new rig finally!

The Raptor is for Windows, the swap file and whatever game I'm playing at the moment.

I have another 80gb of space on other drives.

It's time for me to make other people jealous, I've been jealous of other rigs for too long!

oh, and dowload all the drivers you'll need before you swap everything over.

Sounds like a very nice machine.
Good spec.

Thats one hell of an upgrade from your original. As said though, in this day, you will probably need a bigger harddrive.

I agree the one I have on order now which only has 80gb of hd space right now, need to plan out a nice external storage drive.

Tie you over, or Tide you over..... The former sounds a bit kinky to me, is that why you wanted the USB lead? :D

Right I'm back with it all installed.

Not done anything with it yet.

Pictures wise, where should I put them?

Post them here if they're not too big (file size that is).

Re: Got my new rig finally!

How do I do it?

Raistlin 30-04-2005 18:49

Re: Got my new rig finally!

Underneath the Quick Reply box click on Advanced.

Now scroll down a bit and you'll see something that says "Manage Attachments" click on that button and then you can upload the images.

Failing that, put them up on the internet somewhere and then use the button at the top of the advanced box (it looks like a mountain) to provide the URL of where the pictures are.

Re: Got my new rig finally!

www.photobucket.com are a good host host your pictures there, then get the first url in the boxes underneath, and where you write your posts, then click the img tag to insert the image and enter the url :) copy and paste works best.

EDIT: Also you have no case fan, personally I would install one to help the cooling of the case a bit. :)

Re: Got my new rig finally!

you have def made the right choice with the chip I hope your really happy with it :) have you installed windows??

McGraw 30-04-2005 19:46

Re: Got my new rig finally!

Yes I'm on Windows.

Not installed it on the Raptor yet as I think I need to make a SATA floppy, is that right?

Also, Catalyst kicks up an error every time I boot and the pc tries to reinstall the card.

Games work well though.

The chip is excellent, was only going to go for a 3200+ Winchester but changed my mind card in hand!

Re: Got my new rig finally!

your on your old windows install? sure with new drivers and new install of xp you will be well away, some motherboards nowbased on nforce chipsets do not need boot floppy, check if its there when you boot from cd allow it to go as far as selecting a hdd,if its there you do not need a floppy
When I installed xp 64 all 4 of my sata drives just worked
