Java/streaming problem.
Someone has set up some webcams in my home town
www.shawcam.co.uk Whilst it is not the most exotic place on the net, I would like a peek but cannot get the streaming cam to work. I have allowed everything in ZAPro, Is there a Java plug in that I need. The JAVA console gives me this error message although checking on the java website tells me my installation is up to date. Java Plug-in 1.5.0_02 Using JRE version 1.5.0_02 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM User home directory = C:\Documents and Settings\Home PC ---------------------------------------------------- c: clear console window f: finalize objects on finalization queue g: garbage collect h: display this help message l: dump classloader list m: print memory usage o: trigger logging p: reload proxy configuration q: hide console r: reload policy configuration s: dump system and deployment properties t: dump thread list v: dump thread stack x: clear classloader cache 0-5: set trace level to <n> ---------------------------------------------------- load: class JavaCamPush.class not found. java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaCamPush.class at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadCode(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Caused by: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed. at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.getBytes(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.access$100(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) ... 10 more Any suggestions. |

Re: Java/streaming problem.
EDIT: doesn't work for me, i was looking at the wrong thing!
i think its borked. |
Re: Java/streaming problem.
The streaming doesn't work for me either, but the others (North and South and Rovercams) do, so I'll be looking for places I remember!

Re: Java/streaming problem.
OK. It worked in Opera. Got the same errors as above in IE though.
|
Re: Java/streaming problem.
works in FF, no probs. with ZA firewall.
you have got the main 1.5 newest version? also do you have java web start? try looking for that, it may solve yur probs. ik |
Re: Java/streaming problem.
Well, I've gone into IE Tools/Options and set Java VM to 'low' and it made no difference. Had a look at Java VM custom settings but could not see anything there that may be blocking it.

Re: Java/streaming problem.
well the cams work fine for me im using IE6....
you could try uninstalling java and deleting any reminants in program files and installing a fresh copy of java. if you have not already done so. |
Re: Java/streaming problem.
even the streaming one Kronas?

So, scastle, kronas & ikthius, can you confirm that you can see the streaming pictures. I can view all the other webcams perfectly but not the 1 streaming link.

Re: Java/streaming problem.
I suspect that this is a problem with Java 1.5. Could those who have got it to work check their version number (Scastle, I think Opera comes with it's own plugin so the version won't necessarily be the same as your system version, although I could be wrong). Sadly, some of the language changes to Java have broken a few things.

Re: Java/streaming problem.
i have version java version 1.5.0_02, but having checked in the console previous versions are enabled...

Re: Java/streaming problem.

Re: Java/streaming problem.
This is a reply from the webmaster at this site.
Reply from The Shawcam Operator: Hi There, Please try this : Start your web browser and go to the Dundee webcam at http://dundeecity.gov.uk/ If you cannot see the Dundee webcam then you know the problem is at your end. If you can see the Dundee webcam then go directly to the Streaming Shawcam at http://www.shawcam.co.uk/shawcams/javacampush.htm to find out if you can see it now. You may wish to save the Streaming Shawcam page in your Favorites menu first to make this easier. Then close and reopen your Web browser. The trick is to Start your Web browser (Internet Explorer for most people) go to the Dundee cam first, then go to the Streaming Shawcam. This works for some people, I haven't figured out why yet. But it seems your browser picks up some "Ok to load the Java Applet" signal from The Dundee cam page which allows it to load the Streaming Shawcam Applet. Don't go to The Shawcam Streaming cam first, because once the java software decides it isn't accepting the Applet you have to close and reopen your Web browser to make Java reconsider accepting the Applet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Only problem is that the dundeecity link times out, even if I try to access site direct from IE it fails. |
Re: Java/streaming problem.
The Dundee link seems correct (according to Google, it's won a web site award), but it times out for me as well. I've also found several other JavaCamPush webcam sites which give the same error as the Shaw one.

Re: Java/streaming problem.
Dundee now working, and the 'trick' suggested works, i.e. go to the Dundee web cam THEN Shawcam.

Re: Java/streaming problem.
Well I be blowed. ;) Going onto the Dundee website then to the Shawcam site actually works. Got the webcam going alright now. :) That's using FF. Always worked in IE. :)

Re: Java/streaming problem.
Bah, still not working for me. Dundee cam works fine, go to shawcam and get the Java logo loading, which it didn't before then it fails. Have tried setting IE custom security setting for Java VM to 'low' have allowed all permissions in ZAPro. as well. if you have a look at the white building in the distance on the right hand side of the Northcam, that was an old bank and is now Bertoni's, my local Italian. I will be going in shortly for a take away. Think I will have one of Roberto's specials, strips of fillet in a rich tomato , garlic & chilli sauce with Tagliatelle. I'll give you a wave.:D
Not that any of you would be sad enough to be watching a webcam of Shaw on a Friday night.:p: :) |
Re: Java/streaming problem.
Have you followed the instructions in detail? If you try the Shawcam first, then Dundee, then Shawcam again, that will fail. You need to close all browser instances, so the Java symbol goes from the systray, then open a browser, go to the Dundee webcam, then open the Shawcam in that window - at least that works for me.

Re: Java/streaming problem.
Doing the dundee cam thing worked for me and I'm using an older version (1.4.2_06)
