Goto say, I liked 1, 2 scared me ****less and 3 was class.

I'm 29 now and think they needn't bother, Christopher Reeves was the 1 and only for me.

Personally I think the 'Death of Superman' comic series would have made a good film...

Didn't Margot Kidder, the woman who played Lois Lane in the films have a bit of a disfunctional moment and ended up robbing a petrol station or something?

Good. 3 & 4 weren't that great, & there's no need to go from the very beginning again, so I think it's a good decision to sort-of follow on from 1 & 2. Sounds like Lex is more of a post-Crisis/MoS version too.

Should be good...The Director is Bryan Singer (X-Men 1 & 2, Usual Suspects).

i've just seen some of the plot and it dose indeed take Place after the events of the second movie.that can only be good news for superman fans around the world.

it has the same feel as 'Batman Begins' - i.e. how it should have been done, if only technology allowed & marketing would listen

Ya almost all the crew from the x trilogy moved to superman with him so it was going to be hard to make a good x3 pic.

I must admit when I heard about this I wasn't sure if it was a good idea as Chris Reeves (RIP) would be a hard act to follow, but from what I have heard they have pulled it off.

Re: Superman Returns

Saw this tonight and.....

Well what can i say, its Superman. Thing is the new Superman (
Brandon Routh) isnt as Muscular and he doesnt carry it off all that well to be honest.

The plot isnt that good either, i expected more from this film, i expected to see more of the abilities that Superman can use but was let down.

I can tell you that theres a suprise to this film that you wouldnt expect, but again its been let down by the plot of the film.

The older Superman movies are alot more in depth, this movie is supposed to continue where Superman 2 Ended, but this isnt apparent when it begins.

the relationship betwen Superman and lois is to over the top.

With all the bad points it is worth a watch but dont expect anything to special, as a fan of Smallville and older Superman Movies 1 And 2 i would have to give this new arrival as 6/10.

Anyway its out next week so go see it if you have kids they will enjoy it, as for Superman fans i would go in excited and come out dissapointed.

I saw this last night and thought it was amazing. I am a huge superman fan comics and everything else.

I think if they make a sequel it will be better of course, As this one had to re-introduce the characters and the world they live in.

Superman did use most of his powers in the film.

I personally thought Routh was brilliant as clark and Superman. There were a few occasions I was stunned because his voice and mannerisms were so Like Reeve it was scary.

Loved it 8/10

Well I wouldn't say I watched a poor quality cam. I already have my tickets to go see the movie next friday evening.

zing_deleted 08-07-2006 08:31

Re: Superman Returns

so what did you watch then?;)

Big films like that need a big screen clear picture and good sound.I spent over a grand on my surround sound set up at home and have over 800 dvds some 600 I have not seen.I wouldnt give time of day to a movie that doesnt have 5.1 at least and clear picture. Some screeners have this but I have not seen a Superman returns screener release anywhere yet. Dodgy car boot salesmen make thousands of pounds selling stuff like telesync and telecine releases I personally do not understand this as most movies now are released on dvd only a few months after cinema release. Its my opinion im not saying anything against people who watch them I just dont understand them :)

You have now seen the movie do you not feel that will spoil your experience next week?

Stephen 08-07-2006 11:57

Re: Superman Returns

Well put it this way I have a DVD collection of over 300 as well as 6.1 Surround and big screen TV. I generally go to the cinema at least twice a month.

It was a very good quality TS which is a cam with direct audio. The picture was rather good.

No I do not think it spoiled my experience as I read the novel last week anyway. If anything knowing how great the movie is I want to see it on the big screen even more.

As I mentioned in my last post I have tickets booked to go on the 14th to see the film.

Jules 08-07-2006 12:01

Re: Superman Returns

Some films just have to be seen on the big screen for the special effects if nothing else

Hugh 08-07-2006 12:17

Re: Superman Returns

Saving Private Ryan - first 20 minutes or so.

If had seen this at home first (even with 5.1 surround and large tv), it wouldn't have had the same impact as in the multiplex (imho)

Barewolf 08-07-2006 13:49

Re: Superman Returns

I saw a Maven TS Version but even if you watch it on big screen with all the surround sound it wont change the story line :P

Not everyone gets the chance to go to the cinema to watch everything they would like to. I don't get to see most films until the DVD comes out, or I download them.

Re: Superman Returns

just been to see it this morning 00:05 then 12:30 lol what can i say its been well worth following this project over last year.

Superman is back, not once did i look at screen and think thats brandon routh or thats kevin spacey all i saw was Superman and LL. The highest point of tension for me even though friends picked the boeing scene. ADMIN EDIT - (Russ) please do not post spoilers without warnings, thanks

Re: Superman Returns

Great movie, & a welcome return to the big screen for the Man of Steel :tu:

Good cast, especially the always excellent Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor.

Story's good, great action & effects, some cool scenes for Superman to use his powers.

One thing I didn't really like though (spoiler):

Spoiler:
The whole "Clark/Superman is actually the father of Lois' little boy" plot twist. Didn't work for me. Felt very unneccessary, not needed at all. Also, I don't see how he could've got Lois pregnant. [ go Google "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" ]. OK, maybe he got her pregnant when he was without his powers during Superman 2, but there was never any implication then that they ever did anything IIRC, and when else could they have done so.

Nugget 15-07-2006 00:31

Re: Superman Returns

Just got back from seeing it - absolutely fantastic! Brandon Routh really channeled Christopher Reeve imo, and even the kid with the stereotypical American childs haircut didn't annoy me like they usually do :)

Oh, and I have to disagree with you Mick - I thought it was very clever and didn't see it coming at all :)

Must have been when he was powerless during Superman 2. Only time it could've happened. If he slept with Lois at any other time, she'd have died.

What do you base that on? Superman is clearly able to be gentle enough to deal with humans without hurting them. Who's to say that he can't be gentle enough in love making?

Spoiler:
Superman being unable to have sex is a fairly common theory.

Sexual intercourse would involve certain involuntary things he would presumably have no control over.

Although it's a bit old (Pre-Crisis), & no longer completely fits the current continuity re his powers etc., "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" explains more on the idea of Superman & sex: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_of_...man_of_Kleenex, http://www.rawbw.com/~svw/superman.html
