Short of glueing it up and using your operating system (eject button in Windows Media Player for example) to open/close it, there's no way of doing this that I'm aware of.

A couple of links that may be helpful. The first has a problem but you may be able to follow up to get the download:

Re: CD Drawer on my PC tower

Could you not just sellotape a rectangle of card over the cd-rom to hide the interesting little button?

Errr...Just move your PC tower up on to a table out of your childs reach.

Tell him if he breaks it he pays for it..no more sweeties until he is 18. :D

Re: CD Drawer on my PC tower

He is only two, and i can't move my tower as there is nowhere else for it to go! If the computer is switched off he turns it on so he can ram all kinds of things into the cd drawer. I thought there might be a way as i recently changed a setting in my control panel somewhere that was 'Do Nothing' when the power button was pressed when the PC is on..........

Re: CD Drawer on my PC tower

Then move your PC into another room and place a bolt high up on the door or put a toddler gate across the door.

And find him his own wonderful interactive toy that flashes and beeps and has moving parts...to distract him. ;)

Pia 20-04-2005 22:08

Re: CD Drawer on my PC tower

Thanks for all your advice but i was just hoping there might be a setting somewhere on my computer! Never mind i am sure he will get bored of it soon enough.

Re: CD Drawer on my PC tower

Mine is more interested in the button on the printer that produces the test page with a racing car on it.
again
and again
and again

I keep telling him each time he does it thats 10p out of his university fund but he doesn't seem to care.

Anyway you should at least be able to tell him that it is bad to put stuff in there, even if he presses the button.

Only works after Windows has loaded and is running though :(

If the PC is switched on to immediately open the tray it won't help.

Because it's a very inconvenient way to have to use yor computer to have to disable bits of it.Personally I'd get my computer out of my child's reach mainly because he could get electrocuted if he keeps sticking bits of himself in it....

When mine were small it was the VCR.. So it got put up on top of the TV...and switched off when I wasn't in the room.

Being a parent is the pits sometimes because you have to be forever protecting your home from your child and your child from your home.I hated the twoesies stage because I just couldn't out think the little tykes fast enough some days..So when I offer such advice I AM remembering what it was like. :(

Mine was 3 years old before he developed the same fascination, with a bit of perseverance I got him to understand that if he pressed the button too many times it would break and he wouldn't be able to play Winnie the pooh colouring anymore.

Get a trayless drive or remove the eject button if you can't control the young un.

Re: CD Drawer on my PC tower

Does your power supply have a switch on the back.? Switch it off at the back so he can't get any power at all! I know this doesn't stop him doing it when in use, but its very simple.

I can control my child, i would just rather not have to keep nagging at him to leave it alone, if he couldn't open it then I wouldn't have to try and tell him, which then makes it all the more attractive to him - something he isn't allowed to do.

And it isn't realistic for me to move the tower out of his reach as there isn't really anywhere else for it to go and I have a rather new unit for my computer!!

Purenuman- hit the nail on the head with your last comment. :)
