Monthly Shopping Bill
With thw news that Tesco has made an obscene amount of profit I just wondered how many people are content with the amount of money they spend per month at the Supermarket and how much you spend?
Any comments? I have a wife and 2 small children and spend about $400 per month... |
Re: Monthly Shopping Bill
My partner and I spend roughly £100 per month between us and eat very well as we make most of our meals from scratch.

My last Tesco shop was £120 but the trolley was full of some stuff that'll last a week, some that lasts 2 weeks and some that lasts longer (we have a very large freezer, living so far from supermarkets it's wise to stock up - usually there are at least 24 pints of frozen milk in there!). I used to track our monthly budget in Quicken but these days I'm too busy and I've become a lot better at 'feeling' how well we're doing. I guess our true monthly spend is £350-ish. |

We only buy what we need, we make a menu up so we know what to buy and stick to it, plus once you have a cupboard full of the basics you dont need to buy as much anyway. |

Re: Monthly Shopping Bill
I shopped in Tescos for years, then switched to Asda recently, instant savings for the same products(90 quid per week to just over 70). Only difference was the 'own brand' product packaging isnt as nice, but who cares about that, i'd rather have the extra cash. They also tend to have better offers(on the products I regularly buy anyway)

Re: Monthly Shopping Bill
Have not stepped into a supermarket for a few months now. Use tesco online.
My wife and I spend about £110 - £130 a month, then the occasional top up for perishables etc. Food is one thing I don't mind spending money on - especially brands if I like them. |

Re: Monthly Shopping Bill
Our Bill is probably around £200-£250 a mon th for the two of us.
We make most meals from scratch, but have the odd ready meal in for when we are only in for 10-20 mins before going out again, and have to change as well.. |
Re: Monthly Shopping Bill
Comparing supermarket shopping bills is rather meaningless as it takes no account of meals out and takeaways. Also some people buy everything from the supermarket including many non-food items whilst others only buy non-perishable foodstuffs at the supermarket.

As a family, (2 parents, 3 children) About 800-1000/month
No idea how much you'd need to add for lunches out, etc |
Re: Monthly Shopping Bill
I have a family of 5 so I have shares in Asda with what I spend there.
Tesco's certainly won't be getting 1in 3 of my £'s. I can't stand the poor quality of the food. Er indoors goes there occasionally but not usually for thier own brand foods. |
Re: Monthly Shopping Bill
When me and Mrs Nug do the monthly shop, it normally costs between somewhere between £120 and £180 (having said that, £180 only really happens when we happen to see a couple of DVDs that we want :) )
That will last us for the full month (including cat food, in case we run out of real food :D ), but things like bread and milk will add about an extra 20 - 30 quid a month, so it's probably more like 150 - 200 in total. Mind you, if I add the beer onto that, I think I'll need a second mortgage so I'm not counting that ;) |
