Closing NTL

I have been with NTL for over a year.
Can I close my NTL account over the phone or do I got to sent them a letter etc?

you have to do it in writing and i'd cancel any direct debits if i were you. Ensure you send the letter recorded delivery

Definately - do not listen to any company who tell you they'll "do it for you".

And this is of paramount importance.

I think you can rest assured that ntl will tell you they never received it.

You can cancel over the phone:

The number for cancellations is 0800 052 1474

It's open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

But.... it can take quite a while to get through to them!

Re: Closing NTL

And after you get through they will ask for a letter anyway (which will probably get 'misplaced' until you mention it has been delivered and signed for)

That's right - the official procedure is now written request only. Remember, 30 days notice is required for cancellations.

Have NTL altered their T&Cs to take account of The Consumer Credit Act 1974 (Electronic Communications) Order 2004 which came into force at the end of 2004 to allow notices to be given by electronic means? My contract predates that date as does the online T&Cs.

I can't I already phoned them up too, took sometime to get thru but they also wanted a LETTER, I sent the letter today so they should recieve it within a few days. I got to phone NTL up to make sure they do recieve it.

My contract ends 12th April
If I do not cancel it by then they automaticly renew it.

Emails should also be accepted as a written request. ;)

I also asked if i could email them but they said NO, they need a SIGNATURE.

I wonder if I could write the letter sign it, and then scan it and then send it thru email. lol

It doesn't get renewed. It just carries on. You don't enter a new 12 month minimum term or anything.

Have NTL never heard of digital signatures?

So I would still have to pay for a entire 12 Month to cancel it then?

Then you only need to give one month's notice.

I said that I had NTL over a year but they still said I need to write a letter in, so I wrote the letter and sent it in.

Re: Closing NTL

I phoned NTL back about the Letter and if they recieved it, and the man couldn't find it, and asked me if I had a copy I said yes I saved it on the HDD, and I emailed a copy of the letter to him so he can track it down.
I met 1 NTL Customer Service person who isn't an idiot :D
