Domain Names : Org
Hi all
Can anyone register a ******.org name as someone told me once they were only for reg charities ! Any ideas Thanks Mike |
Re: Domain Names : Org
No, anyone can register them - they're just for organisations - not specifically charity ones.
...and there's lots of places you can register them... hint hint :) |

Re: Domain Names : Org
No, if you want to register one, register it - there's nothing to stop you doing it - there are lots out there done by single individuals... all I'm saying is they are primarily for organisations, same way .com is primarily for businesses

- also the hosting deal that company offers is pants compared to I-Web Solutions. Lets face it, you are not hundreds of quid out of pocket, but could have got cheaper (I just hope they don't charge a fee to transfer DNS). |

Anyway, remember you can transfer it to another domain registrar usually whenever you want - though you will have to register it for another year, so, if for example you moved it tomorrow, you would then have to pay their fee for a years registration, but that would renew your domain for another year, so you would have it for 3 years (if that makes sense) - but bear in mind some companies may charge you to move it away from them There has been some discussion about this here |
Re: Domain Names : Org
They don't seem to care - I've seen companies on .org
The way it was SUPPOSED to work: .COM - Companies/Commercial .ORG - Organizations - at one point, implicitly nonprofit .NET - Specifically related to Internet provision/support/service etc. I believve there are more rules applied to some domains, like ".BIZ" and a few others. There have also been some breakups, like the ghastly "New.net" (spyware) and others that offer additional TLDs. http://www.opennic.unrated.net/ http://www.open-rsc.org/ Because ICANN, the "offical" administration have shown themselves to be dithering and incompetent, many alternative TLD's have sprung up - in many cases, they do make some effort not to duplicate ... logic would have dictated a straight alphabetical split, into as many or as few groups as would faciltate management. It's time the old order shaped up or shipped out! |
