Does NTL webspace (server?) support Php and mySQL
Hi to all i am new here and would appreciate some help.I am trying to set up a website and have registered the domain name , downloaded an ftp freeware programme and purchased easy site s/ware for the grand total of £2.75 (5us) but on uploading it to my webspace have found I cannot activate the programme.I have been advised by someone who knows their stuff that Php and mySQL could be the problem.By the way I am a *complete* (read idiot) novice and am taking my first faltering steps into the world of websites.

Sorry ntl doesn't support anything like that, its good for sticking some files on that you won't have to worry about eating your bandwidth allowance.
Not much you can do with it but suppose it will help you get started, can mess around and learn a few things from it. |
Re: Does NTL webspace (server?) support Php and mySQL
Confused .... what domain name have you pruchased that could be used on ntl webspace, and no, ntl webspace (55meg free) does not support php and MySQL.

Re: Does NTL webspace (server?) support Php and mySQL
ntl provide on the very basics for you unfortunately.
You could alternatively serve from home with a dynamic dns resolver or use a company that provide web hosting such as 1an1, www.1and1.co.uk __________________ godaddy is always good to: https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosti...?se=%2B&ci=146 There is no need for a 12 month package and they are very flexible, I used godaddy to register my domain name, only cost £1.25 for .info domain ;) |
Re: Does NTL webspace (server?) support Php and mySQL

Although as for the offers you have I am actually encouraged by the pricing you have, if your customer service is as good as your pricing you have a brilliant package. |
Re: Does NTL webspace (server?) support Php and mySQL
As im sure many here will tell you, our customer services is better than our pricing.

I have been a customer of I-Web for over a year, now, I can confirm that their customer service belies the cheap as chips pricing. Any support tickets I have needed to raise have been dealt with quickly & efficiently. Also the package itself, with a comprehensive Control Panel, which includes the Fantastico auto script installer, makes for an very good introduction to running a website for a n00b, like me. |

I use http://www.hostlogical.com/?a_aid=23&a_bid=8
unlimited PHP/MySQL/CGI/Perl, loads of free utilities, and only £9.99 per year for their basic package. |
Re: Does NTL webspace (server?) support Php and mySQL
I-web solutions are brilliant, I've only cancelled my reseller and normal accounts because I didn't need the accounts anymore.
As for 1&1 avoid at all costs. |

Re: Does NTL webspace (server?) support Php and mySQL
this i-web does look intresting... but i'll stick with the company's i've been using for a couple of years now... Penguin_Computer_Services, Prices aren't really better than I-Web, but i must day PCS, have top quality CS too... very quick replies, always let know of any minor downtime due to any upgrades etc... one reason why i'd keep PCS over I-Web is the control Pannel, I prefer the Ensim Control Pannel over the the Cpanel by far... used both of them frequently over the years, and i always find that ensim comes out on top in my opinion...

I would strongly recomend I-Web for the hosting. I know several people who use them and they have no problems at all !

Re: Does NTL webspace (server?) support Php and mySQL
Sorry to go against the grain, but I feel I should share my experiences with I-web. I can certainly vouch for the quality of the customer services, which was always prompt and friendly. My issue was that the servers they use were unreliable. My site was down frequently and I know from looking at the I-web forums I was not alone. In the end we had to move to another host, from whom we have had no issues. I know that I-web was aware of the issues and working towards a resolution, but my experiences were far from positive.
Sorry chaps, but I signed up on the basis of recommendations on this board, and feel I should share my experiences accordingly. |
