How to setup CFT 2100??
 

Hello,

the flat I have moved into is wired up for ntl cable - it was installed in all the flats in the building prior to my moving in, and all occupiers were given a CFT 2100 cable receiver box. My neighbour recently showed me that she can use the box for basic channels without having subscribed to anything, so I thought I'd give mine a go. With it connected up I can access a menu screen, which provides a list of channels, however selecting a channel gets me nothing. Is there anyway I can force the box to rescan for channels or something? what is the basic procedure for setting this up?

Err, technically speaking, that is theft, and I am pretty sure discussing theft is against CableForum's terms and conditions.

The best option (assuming you don't want to pay for cable) is to pay between £50 and £70 (one off payment) for a freeview box. You still have to pay a TV licence though (which you would anyway)

hi and :welcome: to the site , what is this CFT 2100 cable receiver box :confused: , is it ntl property or not , as far as i know the only thing that is allowed to be connected to ntl's cable is an ntl supplied box :erm: , when you say basic channels do you mean 1 - 5 or what :confused:

It's not. It's an old analogue box. But it's still the property of ntl and may not be used unless you're paying to use it.

The Samsung box is called SMT-2100C.

fair enough - however, it was the ntl engineer who set it up for my neighbour, and seeing as we are in housing association property, I had assumed that it was just part of the installers agreement with the association.

Basic tv is right - just 1-5 is all I'm looking for, nothing else. primarily, it was just be nice to use the cable connections sitting beside the tv as opposed to running aerial cables half way round the room.

Only ever dealt with it a few times so my knowledge on it is vague. Basically if your in a block of flats or some project and can't receive television signals via and arial then good old ntl provide a feed into the building which is then split once it enters to the apartments inside.

I might be way off, but if he calls ntl, or better still, the site landlord/caretaker they will be able to give more information as how to get the channels

Obviously, state the obvious (lol) He just needs to speak to the caretaker or even his neighbour to see about getting his channels through. As far as i'm aware MATV works from one source, not all boxes leading to the cab. The council pay good old ntl to provide the cust with terrestrial channels. AFAIK

ALL CABLES LEAD TO A DISTRIBUTON POINT AND IT IS THERE THAT THEY ARE MANUALLY DISC AND I DONT KNOW OF ANY COUNCIL THAT PAY NTL FOR A TERRESTRIAL SERVICE IN FACT I BELIEVE NTL PAY THE COUNCILS FOR THE RIGHT TO PUT THEIR CABLES INTO FLATS ETC SOME COUNCIL FLATS IN MY AREA ARE ONLY ALLOWED SKY AS THEY HAVE THE RIGHT OF DISTRIBUTION

I know all about DP's. Turn off your caps lock we ain't deaf lol. I'm just going on what I've heard about MATV services. As I said in my initial post about it, I've came accross it very few times so I could be wrong. Also, it would not come from the council direct, the customers would pay the council a small fee.

As i say, I may be wrong!

Glasgow. Guess I'll maybe make some enquiries with either the housing association or ntl. May be a dumb question, but would my currently getting ntl broadband have any impact on this?

If you are on bb splice the cable and run it straight to your tv you should then be able to tune 1-5

This of course will be part of ntls book of naughty things to do. So don't do this unless you want a callout charge if you make things worse.

Why is it that the engineer when first putting in my cable, left extra cable with a fitting to attack it to the aerial socket on the tv?

This is simply so you can still view the terrestrial channels on your "normal TV" and also some issues occour with regards to teletext. It's just so you can still have access to your "normal" V services if the box if turned off or FUBAR

Does this mean that you can connect the TV directly to the cable socket on the wall? Alternatively, can you pass it through the cable box without having the cable box switched on/plugged in, and still get the basic channels?

Yes, what i was trying to get across is if ntl didn't want you connection the cable straight to your tv then they wouldn't do just that ^ :s
