Nice that ntl customers will get FX, but you have to ask, do we have enough hours in the day to watch all these channels?? :) |
Re: ntl should add these new channels
You only watch the stuff you like surely, and while I'm sure there's a market for endless shopping channels and 'teachers tv' it will be nice to see a new channel that caters for the drama/entertainment liking populace.

Re: ntl should add these new channels
*Thinks about harping on about living tv 2 again*
*Thinks better of it* |
Re: ntl should add these new channels
NTL TV is no more than a second-tier supplier of an incomplete Sky lineup - with the end of "The Studio", the only NTL channels are self-advertising and info, and the truly DIRE Local channel.
Looking at the news section, will the last person leaving NTL please turn off the lights! |
Re: ntl should add these new channels
what exactly is the studio?
|
Re: ntl should add these new channels
the studio was a film channel run by universal studios and ntl.
it was only carried by ntl, and failed to gain carriage on any other platform. the channel shut down in 2003 because there were not enough viewers. it was actually quite good :) |

Re: ntl should add these new channels
Nope. Not here. There used to be a local channel during the Bell and CWC years but there's no local channel on the digital service.
I also recall Carlton Cinema and CFN also closed down because they could not get carriage on Sky and those channels were also on ITV Digital. Goes to show just how vital Sky is for a channel to succeed and also underlines just how much power they have. However, the success of Freeview might redress some balance with any luck. That said, I think the days of cable-only channels are long in the past. Compare that to a decade ago when there were several cable-only channels with broadcasters trying to deliberately start up on cable to try to avoid Sky. |
Re: ntl should add these new channels
Channel 14 Bromley platform (ex C&W) - the "Local" channel, though local to where, I don't know!
Call me racist if you like, but most times I've skimmed past it, it's been "Ethnic TV" of some variety. |
Re: ntl should add these new channels
i#m sure sky has a channel called the studio what kinda films did the studio show?
|
Re: ntl should add these new channels
There was never a channel on Sky called Studio. As mentioned above, it was an ntl-exclusive which shut down because it didn't have a big enough aidience to target.

Re: ntl should add these new channels
The local channel is utter crap, mosty pedalling extremely low quality foreign language programs. Surely there can't be a demand for this rubbish? They could at least swap it for channels that would actually be viewed.

So we get fairly relevant historical/local interest/current affairs programs, documentaries about local industry, as well as 'home grown' drama, fashion, music etc. that's on analogue - I'm not sure if it is the same on digital ??? |
Re: ntl should add these new channels
The Horror channels website in their FAQ says:
'The Horror Channel is looking at other broadcasting platforms to help reach an even wider audience. We hope to extend the channel to cable and are currently negotiating with NTL and Telewest with the aim of broadcasting there from March 05' So fingers crossed :) Ian |
Re: ntl should add these new channels
Actually The Local channel caters for all sorts of different cultures, thursdays and fridays my mum who is from Cyprus gets to watch some greek television albeit for a few hours but she enjoys it greatly and this alone is stopping her from going to Sky

Re: ntl should add these new channels
The Horror Channel ahs been saying that for ages and has neve rbeen allowed onto cable.
