how long have you been with ntl
tought i just make a little thread to see how long people have been with ntl.
my parents first got cable in something like 1992-1994 i can't remember. at the time it was with nynex which then was taken over by cable and wireless which has now been taken over by NTL. so anyone been with them for that long? see we are faithfull customers :) at some point when we had one of the services, we were having work done on our house after threatening to sue nationwide after they did a drive by survey of our house which turns out to be subsidising. anyway other they settled out of court the work started on the house and as the buliders were doing some pileing(i think) they had hit a cable that was something like half 20cm under the tarmac. this cable i think belonged to BT but for some strange reason it had knocked of the a few neighbors boxes and also i think it mite of caused a power cut. boy it was fun seeing all the neighbors come outside and wonder wtf was happing lol. but it wasn't so funny when the bulider showed up pictures of a friend of his who had hit a gas pipe :erm: gone slighty off topic haven't it sorry if this is in the wrong place. |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
Since 1999, then stopped for a couple of years and installed again at my new address in 2002.

Re: how long have you been with ntl
Got the TV service in 1999 and switched from BT Broadband to Ntl broadband in 2003.
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
Since 1997, although it looks like this will be my last year with them.
When I signed up, there was NOTHING to touch NTL for BB, now they've been left behind (sadly) |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
I had the TV service from 1997 till 2000 I know have SKy and will never look back. but for broadband NTL Rule, apart from there billing system, I never have outages etc. its a crackin service. and they never manage to bill me the full amount...
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
too long for me to remember, i beleive its since about 95-96 for tv and phone. Changed to Digital and BB in 2000
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
I used to be with Screaming Net and World Online but then they suddenly got over subscribed and were really bad so I changed to NTL in the year 2000 when I had a special promotion at Uni.
I've been with NTL ever since and am reasonably happy with them. |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
we've had ntl formerly cable&wireless formly nynex since 1992/3 - only ever had telephone. we got digital tv from c&w as soon as it was released, in March 2000. and we've still got it...
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
IIRC, autumn 2001 when broadband became available in our area.
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
Got Analogue TV when Cable & Wireless started making noise about introducing Broadband in my area (about 1997 or 8). Got Digital TV when Cable & Wireless first offered it (2000). Got Broadband when NTL took over and offered it in 2000.
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
I got tv in 1996 from Nynex, changed to digital in 1999 when it was C&W, a phone in 2000 and then BB from ntl in 2001.
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
long time , going back to the days of comcast and analogue cable :erm: :D :D
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
We got Analogue Cable TV & Telephone from NTL in about 1996?? We upgraded to Digital with Broadband as soon as it became available in about 2000.

Re: how long have you been with ntl
Would you like me to add a poll to this thread? It might be interesting to see the answer to your question 'at a glance'. :)

My story's not quite so clear-cut... Personally, I signed-up with them in October 2003 when I moved back to the UK. I initially had tv, phone and bb, but after a catalogue of errors (all in the billing/accounts dept - nothing to do with the technical aspect) I've now switched to Sky (it's bloomin' fantastic!), and BT are sorting out my phone line. However, I'm keeping BB for a while, as it's the fastest I can get in my area. Still getting problems with ntl's billing, however  |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
97 or 8 when Diamond came to our area. For some reason they chose to divert the cable to our front lawn and dug up our front drive and lawn outside the house so we were going to using them after all that.
A bit OT but what does the box do in front (small trapezium sized one with a manhole cover in front?) |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
Think it was around 1996 when we got CableTel installed (Phone & Analogue TV). Soon thereafter, they were taken over by NTL. Got dial-up internet off them too shortly after the take-over.
"Upgraded" to digital around 1999/2000 and availed of a Broadband offer that was ongoing (probably around 2003). We're still with NTL now - the total package contains: 3 Digiboxes (including Main STB) on Family Pack. Telephone Service. 750K ? Broadband. There has been much debate in the household recently whether to leave NTL for Sky. I am off the opinion that (from what I hear from friends) Sky's Customer Service is attrocious and waiting times on phones are even worse than NTL. I would be inclined to remain with NTL due to their all inclusive packages. (Sky doesnt do Telephones or Broadband!!) James |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
97 when it was Diamond Cable, had the TV and phone, the TV was cheaper than sky plus it was faster, you could also have a box upstairs when SKY couldn't do one, sadly NTL have fallen behind SKY, I now have SKY TV, NTL phone and 1.5meg BB.

Re: how long have you been with ntl

Re: how long have you been with ntl
Got NTL analogue + phone in 2000 while living in Southampton. Phone and (generous) TV base pack for £9.77pm -- how things have changed!
Got NTL digital in 2001 in Poole. Base pack about £17pm, with less channels than I used to have on analogue. Found out that half the NTL network got 24/7 free dial-up, whereas we ex-CWC people were left having to pay exorbitant ISP fees. Joined Digitalspy and NTHW.com in November 2001 after the first attempt to roll out CR3 crashed our STB (and, it turned out, every other one in the entire franchise!), and been on the forums ever since. Was a triallist for broadband when in launched in Poole in August 2002. And I think that's about the last time something changed... Isn't that interesting? |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
Since June 1999 - with a CM since Nov 2001
|
Re: how long have you been with ntl
My parents used to have analogue ntl CATV (back when it was "Cambridge Cable"), but ditched it for Sky.
I had ntl broadband at their house, for about a year or so 'till I moved out. I've had ntl phone & BB at my current house for 3 1/2 years. |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
I got NTL (well it was Cable and Wireless at the time) in late 1998, had Telewest (which was United Arstists when we signed up) at previous address in London since 94/95.
Getting Sky installed this Saturday (all because they had to cap the broadband :() |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
I've had NTL since they installed it in our area in Harlow about five years + ago, back when it was called 'Anglia Cable' it was then taken over by its parent company 'Cambridge Cable' and then bought out by NTL, can't remember dates. got the 512Kb service at the same time we got digital about 2 years ago, now got 1.5Mb and looking forward to 3Mb

Re: how long have you been with ntl
:D We've had ntl since 1996 from the days of analogue cable provided by the then Bell Cablemedia with the old Jerrold boxes -(why can't they get the digiboxes to be as small as they were?) - merging to form Cable and Wireless....
Switched to CWC Digital around early 2000, with early Mk1 Pace 1000's and now take tripleplay service of DTV/Internet/Telephone from present ntl:, with combination of Pace 2000 and Samsung 2100c. Realised as writing this that we've been with ntl: for almost a decade now - and with nil problems till the Pace 1000 running broadband died last year!! It does make me wonder though, why, - with the number of longstanding customers indicated by the poll results and posts - ntl don't have some sort of loyalty scheme or rewards structure for those who have been on the network for a long time? |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
Been with NTL since it came to this area well Diamond Cable as it was then, had there tv pack, ditched it for sky NTL phone till next month, then back to BT and 1.5mb modem

I agree thought that more would be welcome, particularly in light of all the deals they're throwing at new subs. |

Been with Comtel -> NTL since around 1997. Odd technical and billing problems but generally they've been fine. Phone/TV charges have increased dramatically though since Comtel days! Now not so easy to financially distinguish between NTL and Sky/BT. |
Re: how long have you been with ntl
Just about 1year due to remove service though, due to me moving house, and my father is loosing there telly service but keeping the phone line.
Will be jumping back online after the updates to the speed ;) |
