new software in hatfield... false alarm :(

well i turned the box on and no guide as normal so i rebooted... got some weird er20 error! then held the bottom arrow down and the numbers started counting down with some new software :D

edit: but it all looks the same! very weird.... maybe this isnt the new vod stuff after all.

edit2: nope, same software numbers on the downstairs box, weird, never had that before :( sorry :(

i think the error 20 thing may mean my box is about to die though...

I don't know to be honest. The VoD software will look more or less the same, at least until the functionality begins. I'm sure someone else can help you with the Er20.

Browneggsandham :)

The new software will look more or less the same for Langley users. For Bromley users, it will mean a change back to blue...

The Samsungs are OK when they aren't sleeping and knacking up your screen ratio ;)

well so far its working fine :) are there any front box button press comobs to restart it instead of rebooting?

Bob 12-01-2005 16:52

Re: new software in hatfield... false alarm :(

Not that I am aware of :)

How much quicker is Interactive with DOCSIS? I was shocked! :D

wow!! your not kidding, it wasnt working earlier but a quick reboot and now it does. i may now even start using interactive! cool :D

and luckily my tv has audio out, so i could hook it up to my amp with no real worries.

Re: new software in hatfield... false alarm :(

DOCSIS is quicker? Hmm.... Here's one for BBKing, then...

Presumably the Samsungs in original areas are using no-bia.cm -- which is 256/128, isn't it? Yet I remember reading that CR3 enabled the DAVIC modems to go to something like 3Mbit.

So how come Docsis seems faster?

Samsung -- OK + Left + Right

from the sticky at the top of this thread, yey!

It may be nothing to do with DAVIC/DOCSIS. It may just be that the Samsung has a faster CPU than the low end Paces...

The Samsung has pretty much the same internals as the 4010 in Langley areas, with the exception of the DAVIC-capable modem.

When using Interactive (that is, the Walled Garden), the bottleneck is usually load times rather than page rendering speed.

256/192, I believe. I did a lot of tests of the effect on interactive speed of changing the CM file speed many moons ago and the result was that there was no noticeable difference once the downstream speed got above 256, most of the latency was in transmission from the end server and display code on the box. The graphs were a remarkably interesting shape.

Samsungs are faster because the box is faster (2 cpus to 1) and UBRs are better than Intersects, fundamentally. The code version is obviously different too, which may or may not have an effect. The end servers are the same in Langley areas for both DAVIC and Langley Samsungs (which took some sorting out, I can tell you, since of course all existing DOCSIS boxes wanted to talk to Bromley servers). And nowadays the latency in the IP routing is the same for practically all STBs, so that's not a factor.

yep, it really is noticeably faster, i may start using it now...
