cd-rw problems
 
i have just had a new computer everything seems ok, except when i put in a blank cd-r it tells me to insert disk. i dont know the make of the cd-rw/dvd drive as it only has s!pwm on the front of it. have tried two makes of disc samsung and mitsubishi. can any one help thanks:mad:

What happens when you put in a normal disk ? does it show up, ? and what OS are you using ??

hi and :welcome: to the site , as bopdude says , it is a good starting point to insert a written to disk and see what happens , it could be a duff drive , who knows :disturbd: :erm: :disturbd:

Also, try running a program such as Drive Info to see if you get more details on the manufacturer/model from looking at the hardware/firmware level

reads written to disks ok. but still says there is no disk when i put in a blank cd-r

when you have a blank in the drive, what do you see under my computer for the drive ?

No drive
empty drive
Disk full etc etc

You say you've just got the pc, is it a new rig, or a previously owned one, if new is it under warrenty still, has the writer ever worked ??

What software are you using to try and write to disk ?

What burning software are you useing, is it windows or that software telling you to insert the disk?

When I changed my burner a while back Nero didn't recognise it until I'd updated Nero files.

Can you actually burn a CD, useing Media player?

it`s a new computer and still under warranty. conntacted supplier and they said they will take it away, but i need it for college and can`t afford for them to take it. tryed using media player and nero express 6 with updated files. also used ashampoo

oh and when i put in a new cd-r i brought this morning media player said there was a disk there. but since then it says insert disk

just tried again and windows mp said there was a disk in the drive, then tried again and it said insert disk

The discs your trying arn't ones that have failed to write previously are they?

<Dumb question time> you are actually putting the discs in the right way up? I only ask cos its caught me out once or twice :(

You say you need it for college, so with the Christmas holidays upon us now might be ideal time to get it sent away and sorted.

had enough just been out and brought anotherone. but kept the other drive on for dvds. everything seems to work fine now and disks ok, thanks everyone for your time and help, hope oneday to return the favour

Pleased you got sorted out mate :) Only thing is you've now knackered your warrenty me thinks :shrug: oh well, there's not much you cant fix either by yourself or with the knowhow of a certain bunch of peeps ;)
