NTL junction box smashed to smithereens

I will give credit where it is due:

Yesterday, a fatal car accident nearby my house, smashed the NTL cabinet into smithereens, I mean completely demolished by a lorry, all I could see was a pile of spegetti, the cabinet was a pile of scrap metal.

NTL started recontructing the cabinet and rebuild the inside this morning and hey presto!! I just got my TV and broadband back, still waiting for the phone to come on. I call that pretty efficient !!!

Good to see NTL speedy reactions. Shame the drivers reactions had not been that quick and the cabinet would not have been smashed.

He's not, he's pointing out that the person's life was more important than a smashed cabinet.

Well that's just lame IMO.

I obviously did not mean it like that, obviously the persons life is more important. Being honest and I suspect anyone is a liar if they say they would care more about someone they didnt know dying than them not having any TV, Telephone or broadband for two weeks because of it.

I WOULD care more about a person - even if i DIDN'T know them than being able to make phone calls watch tv or use the internet.

But then that's just me.

So which is it with YOU? because you say one thing in your first sentence - then say that you suspect anyone that thinks that is a liar?

Do you consider yourself a liar?

SOME people are quick to forget things. That is a MAJOR generlisation.

We ALL react in different ways, all I'm saying is that it's not fair to say that 'anyone' would act in the same way, I know I wouldn't as I've not been raised that way.

Ultimate think about it.

Cabinet gets smashed, it may have damaged the cables underground as well.

They fixed everything, my neighbour got everything back, phone TV and internet, I got TV and internet, just not phone. And they left a card at my door saying everything is working, phone doesn't work.

Restoring an entire cabinet is not a minor job, there are bound to be the odd problems afterwards. Simply contact ntl on Monday and explain the problem.

Yes, but as ethical and empathetical as a company might be, they also have a job to do. When the WTC was destroyed in 2001, there were some major routing hiccups on the Internet, and indeed services to many parts of america were disrupted. However, most of these were restored in hours, due to the professionalism of the IT industry.

As much as the news agencies hate to show it, in the face of tragedy, for the majority of people, life goes on....

Final posting from me on this thread.

I phoned up NTL this morning, booked an engineer to come out in the afternoon, he came on time and sorted out the phone line. Now everything is back. Well done NTL!

IS there no 24 hour number where by you can speak to somebody about a fault, not just an answering service?

BT have their faults but atleast you can talk to a human being...

I wouldn't imagine that there would be a room full of operatives waiting to take fault calls all through the night. Maybe if the ones that were on duty were all taking calls any other customers trying to get through would get an answerphone response and a call back from an operative when one was free. Did you leave a message?

For all you know there may be a man and a van already trying to rectify the problem, particularly if more than you are affected by the fault. Maybe one of the NTL peeps could tell us how the overnight telephone fault service works?

Re: NTL junction box smashed to smithereens

I believe that if its BB or Telly your out of luck, the 24 hour number is for phone faults only, even then it I think they'll only just to it if you're an "at risk customer".
