geforce fx5900 256mb
Asus, Leadtek, MSI and Creative are all doing these for about £400. Is there any real difference between these cards and their performance or are they much the same? Anyone know?
|
Go for the Leadtek, the performance differences are nominal but I've found Leadtek is normally better quality and offers a better software bundle.
|
Even if I have an Asus mobo?
|
Just out of curiosity, what are you doing that requires a fx5900 256mb??

Wow, those go for about 320 pounds here.
I'd get a Radeon instead... :) The 9800 Pro 256MB looks very nice, and they go for about 290 pounds here. |

Is this any good. Considering that it's made by a company I've never heard of......but the price is good:)

For my money NVidia outstrips Ati any & every day
Remember, Nvidia are the people behind the NForce Chipset I have used NVidia chipset graphics cards for Many years and have no complaints whatsoever :) Fast, smooth, reliable, graphics engine is awesome, what more can I say? Also, if you have a TFT monitor with an auto setup button, they have a flat panel calibration screen in their drivers :) |

I'm Nvidia through and through, but ATI's technology should be kicking Nvidias ass and it isnt.
It has to be poor drivers, theres no other explanation. However Nvidia make very powerfull budget cards and thats why i love them so much. |
Yes but is that card I linked to in post#13 any good? :D
....anyone?? |
try this , look on the labs section , it seems to give a good comparison of cards ;)

whoops i thought it was
but did you see anything that would work for you at the price you want ????????????????? :) |

I want a price as close to £300 as possible but at the back of my mind is the mantra: 'you get what you pay for':( |

the way i see it prices are dropping like a stone all the time , i reckon in 6 months time you will be able to get 512mb ram on a graphics card for the same price you pay now for 256mb       |

Very nice card - its the daddy of all cards at the moment i mite geth the fx 5600 256mb bit cheaper lol!
and the ati 9800 pro 256mb isnt worth the dosh might aswell just get the 128mb one and www.tomshardware.com is a good place to read up about cards! |
i have the geforce fx 5200 built into my new laptop, its pretty nice :D
Havent tried many games on it though but most stuff runs smooth, the chameleon demo works nicely, however some others run jerky (the fire demon demo or whatever). I plan on getting 3dmark soon to test it out properly :) Does anyone know where i can get the old 2002/01 version of whatever it was? I cant seem to find any links :( |
I have to agree with Lord Nikon there ive got a TFT Flat panel monitor with an nvidia Geforce 4 graphics card. Works very nice

In my day we were glad to have CGA.
EGA was really showing off! |

Basically, if you wait a couple of months for a more advanced card, you will always be waiting for a more advanced card. There is always something more powerful round the corner. |
Ramrod: that Inno 3d card you where looking at... Im using an Inno3D GF4 Ti4200 and it actually just underperforms compared to my friends Creative Ti4400 and I have never had a problem with the card yet so I would reccomend them to anyone it was also about £50 cheaper then the nearest brand when I bought it however I seem to remember somebody on these boards hating them with a passion (Could have been Richard M) He may have had a bad experience with the cards or knows someone who has, or maybe most are faulty and I was just lucky, who knows??
Its just like I know people who swear by PNY 3D Cards yet the one I used, the heatsinks where attached with a non Heatproof double sided sticky tape so when the card built up any kind of heat the heatsinks would fall off  This fried my friends Network card and damned nearly took the motherboard with it. Apparently they dont attach the heatsinks like this anymore but if they are willing to do something like that to cut costs who knows what other corners they may have cut with building materials. |
