microdirect.co.uk

Tho, I used corporate accounts...I'm sure there's cheaper retail websites out there. :)

These are really good - but don't do next day delivery

edit : actually, they don't look too good for cd's - good for dvds though, which is what I've used them before for

On a similar theme....does anyone still buy 74 min CD-Rs? If so where do you get them from these days?

I've found them far more compatible (for CDDA burning) with my multi-disc changer in the car than 80 min ones.

And I've only got 10 left ARGHHH

74's are very rare now, I doubt that anyone still makes them

I get my media from the local computer fair too!

Superdrug (at least my local one) do samsung media - not as cheap as online or computer fairs, but handy for a cased 10 pack or 25 tub if you run out.

I've only used them for DVD+/-R (great service!), but they sell CDR etc too.

It's usually brand (quality) that causes problems rather than the size of the blank disk.

Have you tried only burning 74 mins on the 80 min + discs?? Did you still have trouble??

Re: Buying CD-R's off the Internet

Yes I've tried a few brands, from the cheapest right up to HHB Professional ones. It's quite a well known issue, particularly on in-car players that are a few years old or more.

It's not a problem on my home player as this supports CD-R and CD-RW. The problem is, as I understand it, that the power required to read the smaller pits in an 80 minute disc is slightly greater, this is where the problem comes in for car players. It doesn't really make any difference burning less on to an 80 min disc, as the pits are the same size as a full one.

Saying that, you do tend to find issues with many brands for the last few minutes of a recording, but most CD players will read up to that point if not beyond - so yes quality of disc is important for that.

I've even resorted to eBay now for my 74 min discs...LOL

My local supermarket has 74 min CDs... and in fact, I even saw some at PC World when I last went there (not that I go there regularly, but I was after a laptop bag, and thought that even they wouldn't be able to mess up that! ;))

DRAwe is right - the after sales for SVP is excellent, as is their pre-sales service. I can highly recommend them.

They even helped me once when I was living abroad by suggesting one of their competitors when they were unable to deliver to France (think that's changed now and they serve all of the EU) instead of pushing for me to order through them and get my order delivered to a UK address and then shipped over to France afterwards.

Highly recommended!
