I've signed up for one of these accounts, considering it offers MS SQL, it's bloody good value.

Trying to get a view of plesk:
www.plesk.com - Follow the demo links for Plesk for Windows

Casper - I am assuming its the domain owner demo people want?

What other features are available?
PHP? Version?
MySQL?
Can I have ASP ASP.NET Scripts?
Etc.

It's got (from the CP I'm looking at) ASP, PHP, MS SQL, .NET and shed loads of other bits and bobs.

Re: I-Web Solutions: Windows Hosting

Tricky - you can see information about Plesk v7 here:
http://www.sw-soft.com/en/products/plesk7win/

and a demo here:
http://www.sw-soft.com/en/products/plesk7win/demo/

The key one is the Client demo. This will give you access to the client account, which allows you to add new domains (domain owner level), whereas the domain owner is 'just' the admin of one single domain.

Services include:
Microsoft ASP 6.0.3790.0
Microsoft ASP.NET 1.1.4322.0
SSI 6.0.3790.0
Perl v5.8.0 built for MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
Python 2.3
PHP 4.3.3 (cgi-fcgi)
Microsoft FrontPage 5.0.2.5012
Microsoft SQL server 8.00.194
MySQL 4.0.16-nt

Re: I-Web Solutions: Windows Hosting

I've had a few emails about the databases we offer now on our Windows packages.

Basically, there are three Microsoft Access, SQL 2000 and MySQL. All of these databases are included in the price of your hosting packages.

We do not charge extra per database, i.e. MS SQL. I've seen some hosting companies charge as much as £99 per MS SQL database, with restricted sizes :erm:. This will not help you, so we don't do it! :D

I have one & encourage anyone else who wants a site to get one.

Although I wonder how someone else putting this sort of offer on here would be treated?

If someone is able to offer what I-web offer for £4.99 a month (Windows hosting that is, I'm not overly interested in other people touting their scabby *nix hosts) then I'm sure they'll be welcomed, however, I sincerely doubt that you'll find anyone willing to do anything even remotely similar for that price.

How long will this offer be available ?

Re: I-Web Solutions: Windows Hosting

At this rate not long! :)

This is a very good offer and I don't intend to keep it open for long at all.

Re: I-Web Solutions: Windows Hosting

Eeee, this is as cheap as chips!

I'll have another just for spares.
Even though I have no domain name at present, I hope this will be OK.

If I manage to sneak this past "she who has pursestrings" I'll try for a domain later :D

Caspar 09-09-2004 10:59

Re: I-Web Solutions: Windows Hosting

You don't need a domain to take advantage of the offer :)

I dont want to like rock any boats here but care to explain why a windows hosting package is like uber compared to say a linux/unix one? It depends on what your after I guess and i tried an ASP Package myself (500mb Web Space, 15 gig month transfer running on of course windows but no MSSQL or any SQL - Just damm access) - personally for space to use it was fine but looking for a decent portal/forum etc was not easy.

"Unlimited Databases" - I take it the database space used is included with your quota??

Like I say - each to there own - I pay aout £5 a month for 2 gig space, 75 Gig Transfer a month, 2000 ftp account / email account (more than enough eh), anon ftp, 10 MySQL and 10 Pregsql (or whatever you call it). I wont say who (its USA and yes it runs on linux) but im more than happy with it..

he, he.... it was "confession time" last night, I told her that I had spent £7+ on a website & she then told me that she had just bought herself a new coat for £40 !

So I also got the domain name registered today! :D :D

TBh, i'm not sure what you're asking here? Though a comparison of Windows vs Linux hosting is fair and lengthy.

Windows offers you native scripting support for ASP/ASP.NET. Also PHP, CGI, Perl and Python. You can use MS Access, MS SQL and MySQL databases. And of course Frontpage Exntentions.

Linux offers you PHP, CGI, Perl, Python and MySQL.

Basically there are somethings Windows can't do that Linux can but Windows can do PHP and MySQL databases.

Why there is price differences between different hosting companies is always key and is determined by many factors from supplier costs and competition.

Yes, we don't limit database sizes, but you have to remain with your account limit of course!

There are other things to hosting that determine value, such as domain hosting, how many? Also support contact, I-Web are proud of its support record with many eager customers to tell of their support response, quality and speed.

This is known as over selling which is something we will never do take this scenario this host has for talks sake 100 customers on this server and each one uses his allotted space and bandwidth it would very soon either bring the server down due to the amout of traffic or he would go out of business.
with those figures he would need
7500GB traffic per month which it is very unlikly he has this unless it is a 10mbit unmetered connection which would cost more than he is bringing in
210GB hard drive.

I already have 2 *nix reseller accounts with i-web but that is not what we're talking about, I have ASP applications I want to convert to use MS SQL ... try doing that your £5 linux account. Windows hosting has ALWAYS generally been more expensive than *nix hosting, and if you look around (because I did before I chose i-web for my windows hosting) I doubt you'll find many web hosts that offer what they offer for the price.

As long as people keep talking about it then no! ;)

Seriously, if anyone requires windows hosting I want them to know where to look....anyone who does will get a discount....but once my sig has been removed maybe discounts will not be available!!!!

Re: Windows Hosting Promotion (I-Web Solutions)

Sorry if I'm too late on this....

Could of stupid questions if I may?....

1. Is the excellent offer still available?

2. Are there moron's guides to setting things up? Particularly I'm wanting to put my music collection database on there and have a quick and simple search engine. I wouldn't know where to start with SQL etc, however I have managed to get the database into an Access file - what would I do next with it?

3. Will this price be the same when it comes to renew it in 12 months?

4. I have two domains right now - both are just pointed at my ntl webspace. One of them I pay extra to have an advert removed at the top of the page - I presume this doesn't happen with you guys?

Both of the domains are paid up right now, so what happens with directing them to your hosting? Do I get some sort of url like andygrif.i-webhosting.co.uk?

Or is there a way of keeping my domains with the people I'm with but directing them to your site? I really don't know much about how domains work (can you tell?)
