If you are going to complain about spelling, make it putting a g on the end of the words that need it...but im not going to be that picky :)

As far as ive seen, red button interactivity hasnt made any difference to my life...certainly not enough to make me ditch ntl.

And I don't like to moan, but are the shift and apostrophe keys broken on your keyboard?

If you're going to be pedantic, at least get things right yourself!

And ntlrocks, next time ask for a keyboard with a 'g' on it...

Seen as that more channels/programmes are going the interactive way, you're going to be missing out on a lot of stuff.

But what interactive stuff is really worthwile? For me, multiscreen options for things like the olympics, wimbledon, euro2004 are really good. If a tele company cannot provide these, I'd consider switching. But, apart from multiscreen, I'm not that impressed with interactive content. But perhaps that's because I have NTL? :)

Well we can't really say anything about the interactive until we're the same as Sky and we're not. Unless you've seen Sky's current interactive service, you can't say it'll be bad.

Also, you don't have to use it anyway...

I'll admit to not having seen Sky's interactive, so I really don't know :)

But, if I'm not going to use it, I wouldn't be bothered by its absence.

I wasn't having a dig by the way, it's a genuine question. I really value the multiscreen option, but haven't seen any other worthwile interactive content (on NTL) yet. Choice of commentary is nice, but not important for me.

I also not having a dig with this, but what one person finds worthwhile, another doesn't, but we shouldn't get rid of it because someone doesn't like it... :)

I've not seen Sky only interactive either...

Nobody suggested getting rid of it. I think we're misunderstanding each other. Anyway, I think we may be taking this thread off topic. I'm considering starting a thread about what interactive content people find worthwhile.

My first post was in response to mdean's post saying that he came from Sky to ntl because of the red button. I got the impression that mdean would prefer it not to come to ntl.

I was well p'd off with C4's constant showing of the red dot during Big Brother, so I can fully understand that :)

But I thought that the BBC interactive service during Euro 2004 and the World Snooker championships were very good and I was glad that the interactive service was working.

I know the BBC red button isn't as bad as CH4, but that's the broadcaster's fault not ntl or sky's.

Also, it's early days yet for interactive. Hopefully, it'll get better once they realise what they can do.

The BBC have it spot on IMO when it comes to the red dot. When it appears, it's not there very long. And when it comes to the content, being able to choose what game you want to watch (Euro2004/Snooker/Olympics) is something I don't go without. We'll see what they can do, but my feeling is that multiscreen will be the main thing :)

The sky movies multistart would be okay as well, because it's annoying when you miss the start of a movie.

I would prefer no red button - it is not needed-
I did not say no interactive content

I know there is teletext on analogue tv - I dont need an on screen prompt

No to the red button - at the very least a user should be able to get rid permantley

Football first on Sky Sports is pretty good, where you press the red button and you can select which match that you want to watch extended highlights off.

I personally agree with NTLrocks. A lot of people on this board do like to moan a lot about nothing.

I left sky just under 2 years ago and would never look back to sky after the constant rubbish service I had with them.

ntl7 31-08-2004 15:12

Re: Red button for Sky sport/movie channels

LOL i had rubbish service with them aswell, they always gave me rubbish digiboxe's and then the minidish always used to come loose and we would get no tv signal for days to there incompetence. There are a few downsides to NTL currently which can all be solved with lots of money being thrwon in them but then no one is really investing are they!

Re: Red button for Sky sport/movie channels

The only Sky interactive services that I find any good are BBCi (what ntl has now), Sky News Active (8 multiscreens) and the Multi-start feature on Sky Movies 3 is brilliant, apart from them, everything is a money making service by Sky.

OMG I WAS TALKING ABOUT INTERACTIVE SERVICES ON SKY DIGITAL PLATFORM NOT JUST ON SKY CHANNELS...

...so get your facts right!

ahh then saying "The only interactive services on sky ..............." would have conveyed that message.

No need to get arsey

Reading his post, he did say Sky interactive services, so I would have taken that as meaning Sky...

the only Sky interactive services = interactive services on Sky = BBCi

back to my question. I would like the option to access the interactive content on sky sports, do ntl have any plans to make this facility available in the near future?

Or just joking, maybe? ;)

It's pretty obvious though that it's Sky who are the ones dragging their heels over interactive services on cable. Notice that there's no Sky Active on Telewest either and that now we have SKy Sports Xtra on cable Sky have started to move the good stuff to Sky Sports Active (the same way they moved the good stuff to SSX before we got it).

Mikey E 08-09-2004 20:34

Re: Red button for Sky sport/movie channels

Why would Sky spend the time/money making their interactive service available to ntl DTV customers - unless ntl were footing the bill?

Why shouldn't they?

It costs Sky The Broadcaster money to provide this service for satellite viewers, not Sky The Platform. The money may come from the same place ultimately, but this is how it should be seen. As a broadcaster, Sky should not be aloud to use their sports broadcasting monopoly to promote their digital TV service.

I have missed nothing - switched on player cam a few times- dumb idea

Multi news still avail to me as I have FTA sky -- never use it --more trouble than its worth - I am more likely to use ceefax

Now I don't get an annoying dot on every programme I do like eg cricket , eg rugby league, eg on videos when there is no 'interactive content' except games quizes and crap designed to part fools from their money

Yes $kylovers I know pressing back up gets rid - but 6/7 times an hour is too much.

WE DO NOT NEED AN ON SCREEN PROMT
