Question about the thick & thin parts of the cable

Today my wife was planting some new items in the flower bed, and we were fairly surprised to discover that the NTL cable is (a) only 3" deep, and (b) not in green trunking. (there is a short section of green trunking at the point where the cable comes out of the soil up to the wall box, but none actually where it's buried). This seems a bit of a sloppy installation to me.

Anyway, my wife inadvertantly nicked the insulation of the thin cable with her trowel (the thick part seems undamaged). I bound it all up with gaffa tape, and our broadband connection hasn't stopped working. Am I right in thinking that broadband runs down the thick cable and the thin cable is only for telephone? If this is the case, then since we don't have NTL phone (or TV), I am hoping we won't have a problem.

I think your assumption is right and its the thinner phone cable that has been nicked. The TV and BB both feed through the thicker coax cable.

Although you have not subscribed to the TV/phone it is normal to provision for all 3 services when they do the 'pull' to the property.

This could have been avoided, as since you live in Herts, there was no reason to go digging in Beds!! :D:D

You have to be careful when you are pushing the cable through the hole in the wall in case there are any Notts in it.

I have been at work, so nice to see so much creativity interim, and no Bucks to the trend....

If anyone else has a pun on a County or Shire, I will happily enDorset just to add a bit of Gloucs to the proceedings.
