Gmail Signature pics

I've added one to mine ... anyone else want one.

I'm not the best at graphic manipulation, but it looks ok :D

Just tell me waht email address your using and I'll upload them to here :D

I don't have the slipstream font tho' ;)

Dave Stones 30-06-2004 12:34

it is tahoma, according to photoshop.

check out the attached... one is your name, one is a photoshop template that was floating around the gmail forums ;)

photshoppers just need to change "yourname" to their name, and move the gmail logo slightly...

not sure how PSP handles photoshop templates...

:Yikes: Photoshop on my PC won't open that PSD file, it says there isn't enough RAM. My PC has 512MB of RAM, and as of this moment the vast bulk of it is lying idle (I just did a restart to make sure). Any chance you could re-check that the file didn't corrupt or something? Its size on my desktop is a mere 361k.

Dave Stones 30-06-2004 13:28

Re: Gmail Signature pics

what the hell... i think there is something wrong with your photoshop, i have it just opened now and all it says is "some text layers need to be updated before they are suitable for vector output... do it now?"

i have checked it and it seems fine here... still, the original is at THIS location.... dont ban me for advertising other forums ;)

aaw pants, I can't get the original to open either. Photoshop has never misbehaved on my PC before. Just a thought - which version of Photoshop are you using? Mine is 6, I wonder if the file is v7 only? Guess I could try and open it at home on my lovely Mac this evening, right tools for the job and all that :D

Dave Stones 30-06-2004 13:34

Should one capitalise the words in the address, or not?

Some do, some don't.

You could slip it in to the right of that.

Perhaps you should change to DILL*IGAF@GMAIL.notgoingto complete this incase it gets picked up for spamming.

Photoshop will take as much memory as you can give it and some.If you have lots of other windows and software running it hates them and gets huffy so make sure you have as few other programs running as you can. Also if you have lots of styles and shapes and brushes loaded I suggest you remove them after use and before closing down Photoshop or you may have a long wait for it to load the next time you use it.

But all in all it's a wonderful graphics package.

Incog.

Trouble is if I 'refine' it too much it looks crap.... anyway - i've changed it and um got the file size down a bit more.:)

If it's STILL to crazy then I'll have to work on it some more.

I can't get it to load at all.

The trial version loaded ok, then I removed and bought the full version, and no joy whatsoever. I cannot get it to open.

I have had to give up on it...what a waste of rather a lot of money!

It will load and run on my OLD machine, with 128mb RAM and a 166 processor, but not this new one!

Hmm! Why not try Adobe Forums for some help and support. As you say it's a lot of money so see if anyone can help there in the forums.

I think they are meant to be understated and not look too much like an advert.

IIRC some of the comments on the gmail forums where the image came from suggest that the design might make it harder for certain bots to read and collect them for spamming purposes too.

The original design is a PSD file ... The images I'm converting them to are jpgs, no layers ;)

Good point, that would explain a lot.

I think they look really cool. I'm totally sad. I know GMail weren't responsible for the images, but perhaps they should look at some sort of script to generate one whenever an account is created.

The whole GMail thing seems to be taking the net by storm. By doing the 'invites' thing initially, under the supposed cover of it being a beta, they have added a sort of exclusivity to it which seems to have created a massive 'desire' in people which probably would not have been so great if they had just gone ahead with standard trials and then a launch.

Add to that the fact that the actual product is superb.....and what we are witnessing is internet marketing at its very best. Just sit back and look at the sheer number of people on the net as a whole who are desperate for a GMail address. That's some marketing achievement, especially given the saturation of existing free webmail services.

Better still, people are now desperate to carry the GMail logo in their sigs, on the websites, etc...all FREE advertising! And Google didn't even have to design or pay for the adverts, nor even ask for them, the users did it all off their own back! Incredible when you analyse it!

Just as well, otherwise you poor impoverished PC users wouldn't be able to open them without some fancy graphics package installed. Us switched-on Mac addicts, on the other hand, enjoy native support of PSD format :D

Which reminds me, I simply couldn't get that little 300k file to open in PS 6 on my work PC (512MB RAM). It said there wasn't enough RAM! PS 7 on my Mac at home (640MB RAM) opened without a second thought. Wassup?!
