Roger WFT??? what?
The purple bear, What sort of drugs did that to the poor bear. Poor thing, why weren't the zoo keepers careful about what they given him/her?? |
Very bizarre indeed.....

I know, I found that out 20 seconds after I posted my message. (i know, I'm thick lol:) :wavey: ) |
It looks like something out of a childrens cartoon... :erm:
|
wierd very strange are we sure someone hasent painted it that colour   :erm:
|
I think the bear in question has a skin infection - it was painted with something called gentian violet - an old 'antibiotic' - which should cure the problem!
It's not a fashion statement! |
I think it is a fake as even it's black muzzle has turned purple and that has no hair on it
|
Muzzle are quite susceptible to colour change anyway. They are black due to skin pigment. If the bears pigment is all out of whack due to antibiotics or whatever then the nose could easily change colour.
Some unethical owners of show dogs with light fur get their noses tatooed to ensure they stay black! |
purple polar bears.
whatever next |
:erm: If it's not a mocked up photo.... then why have the stones in the background and a few other things turned a delicate shade of lilac too?
Perhaps its an optical illusion and i'm seeing purple everywhere after scrutinising the bear for so long to check for evidence of photoshop etc manipulation or the bear's been rubbing itself a bit too roughly on the rocks coz it's got an itch from the dermatitis? Do i care? :erm: :D |
Some of the bars are purple as well.
Though that might just be a picture of any bear ananova have used to show a purple bear. |
I'm pretty sure that a polar bears skin, as opposed to its hair is black all over.
|
Mmmmmm.. just seen the CBS news clip..... looks fairly real to me.....
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/...in563855.shtml :erm: Am currently eating humble pie.... and it tastes yuk :p But the bars and rocks still look purple to me in places... but then the colour may be have been 'enhanced' for the photo shots... bit like all the other models in the news :p |

Right..... purple polar bears and drawing the crowds in an argentinian zoo.... A reaction to medication or a way for a zoo to get publicity and make a fast buck? Am sure they need the money to keep the zoo open.... if the bear doesn't suffer any harmful side effects, does it really matter? |
The Times reported that the drugs are for a dermatalogical condition.

The colour looks too even? I'm sure you can colour swap when editing a digital movie - you'd have to "see it with your own eyes" to be sure. However on a serious note: as has been said a Polar Bears skin is black, It's coat is white and these adaptatations help it survive the Arctic conditions a Polar Bear usually lives in. The hairs let through wavelengths of light that warm the skin, but reflect harmful ones. How would dying those hairs purple affect that? In Argentina?? Gaz |
