Let it burn - nice big insurance claim - it's all worth much more than salvaged especially as the poilcy says "new for old". Biggest problem would be the hassle.

Do hope the insurance company isn't reading this or they might get suspicious

NB no wife or kids to worry about before you say "what about them", Oh and I wouldn't even bother with the PC backups - I lost anything worthwhile when my HD went belly up a couple of weeks ago and didn't have backups :dunce: :disturbd:

Hassle, you wouldn't believe the hassle the insurance company's give you, ours tried to haggle over the price of bed linen  And then after that you've got 10 years of other insurance companies not wanting to touch you (oh and sky high premiums). :(

what if your pets where the cause of the fire? especially possible if they are evil! cute pets are evil, its a fact

Chris 11-05-2004 20:13

Re: if you could only save 3 things

hmmm ... wife and son goes without saying. In terms of posessions ... probably my iMac, as it has well over a thousand family piccies on it taken with our digi camera. And if I had a spare finger to hang it on, my camcorder bag plus the two master tapes containing family videos shot since I bought it about three years ago. Everything else is replaceable.

bb31 11-05-2004 20:27

Re: if you could only save 3 things

1. daughter
2. cat
3. purse containing credit cards etc

everything else can be replaced eventually after arguments with insurance company over payouts cos they always dont want to pay up!!

Hmm,
I feel all kinda sad now - i see all these people here saying they would save their family and stuff, yet all i have here is my 1 bed flat.

Im not a loner or nothing (honestly guvnor), in fact im moving upto Scotland soon to be back with my family and friends (im down south with work at the mo), yet im not sure i would want to save anything much.

Kinda makes you look at your priorites really. Screw the material things.

Do you have a tarantula or an Iguana or something?? just with you saying cute isnt the word.

I would save.....
1.) The Dog

And thats about it really, everything else is either too heavy to be worth the risk (PC, TV, etc) or is insured anyway (Laptop, mobile, etc)

Almost exactly what I was going to say, the household documents folder is usually worth more than all the possesions inside the house put together.

I thinks that I would swap the underpants for the photo album collection, with some being dead they are irreplaceable.

I'm no longer a boy but I'm still a scout :D

Re: if you could only save 3 things

Depends who was in the house at the time.
I suppose it would be Clio (my dog), her lead and car harness! :D
Or if it was a weekend it would be Paul, the dog, and whichever of my 2 daughters was in residence (they seem to be avoiding each other at the moment! ;) )
And photos - I have some of my Dad which can't be replaced :(

Well the fire...

Actually it's Granny Weatherwax who asks the question and that answer was given by Walter Plinge in Maskerade...

Mine's the leather jacket!

And that's one of the things I'd take, along with my business backup disks and my wallet because that's got the credit and debit cards I'd need to pay for all the stuff that I'd need in the next few days.

Ah I see how you could have misread what I posted to think I was suggesting Granny gave that answer.

Didn't Nanny Ogg say something like "I expect you said your mum" to which he replied, "No, she can get herself out"

Well, it would have to be:

1. Cats - if I could manage to find them and / or stop them fighting!
2. Girlfriend (or I'd never hear the end of it!)
3. Assuming I had my phone and keys on me, file box that's got all of the info I'd need

Well apart from the obvious family and pets etc.

I would save -

1. Unreplaceable photos of parents
2. Metal Lockable Box - Contains Mosy of My Documents
3. Tough one would have to be the shed keys i think.
