someone laughing at us
I am begging to wonder if there are any good employers out there! I have worked for 3 big companys now, and everyone has treated people like crap.
my latest one likes the line "if you dont like it the door is there, there is enough people to take your place". The latest antic that peeved me off is i have had to op on my knee, I have been in physio for 3 years and ended off for 2 weeks. My emloyeer decided 6 months ago not the pay sick pay and stuffed me - i found out today!!! I have been there for 4 years, i hurried back as i didnt want to take the mickey - big fool me heh |
Re: someone laughing at us
Slightly off topic but if you've had physio on your knee for 3 years and your still not good then the physio should stop treatment.

My employer/supervisor is wicked!
She understand's when we need a day off.... doesn't moan at us when we come in late, as long as there's a reason... and is a all round laugh! Actually enjoy going to work, even though it's only part time and means I have to get up at 5am! |

Re: someone laughing at us
1) i think you meant good employers (third option) not "gods"
2) my current manager is a complete and utter bitch.... she is constantly looking over our shoulder, constantly criticising, never praises, sucks up to certain members of staff and bitches at the others. Constantly finds new ways to pee us off, like having stupid meetings at the end of the day..... |
Re: someone laughing at us
These days your very lucky to find a good employer, especially in a large company.
They usually are only "good" because they are so inneficiant & mismanaged that they miss lost of things that an efficient company picks up on. Mine for example, they are a useless bunch of...(I'll not finish the statement!). |

I work for a small (30 employees) company and have done so for nearly 15 years now. Our boss has a lot of time for all his staff.
I can definitly say there are some good emplyers out there. |
Re: someone laughing at us
I've never met my current employer - never even had an interview... I've spoken to him tho. Umm
I've not had any problems with them. My money turns up in the bank account on time - what else can I say :) |

Re: someone laughing at us
The AA used to be great to work for until Centrica (british gas) bought them.
NTL was fantastic, as I've said before I had the world's best manager and director when I first started. They helped when they were needed, didn't play politics or empire building, everyone looked up to them, and not just because they'd often take us all out for a pub lunch :) They were the sort of people that no matter how bad things were, you'd bend over backwards to help because you know they'd do the same for you. Too bad a crappy manager who no one liked or respected came in just above me and made the place unpalletable. |
Re: someone laughing at us
my current employer is ok, as a company, I am on the group consultative committee & our HR Director is a very caring bloke, for example :)
- my immediate manager is , too, - 'people orientated' , she tries to get us the tools to do our job :tu: - her boss suffers from being spread too thin, combined with being a power freak, this person even dictates how our desks are arranged in our office, but only comes in twice a week, mainly to see if there is any gossip. :( |
Re: someone laughing at us
Mine is great. They're letting me transfer to work from their Glasgow office so we can bring up our family with a little more support from our extended families. This is despite the significant hassle and cost involved for them.

Re: someone laughing at us
I have seen many a company where the upper management have been too busy building their empires, sucking up to their seniors and backstabbing everyone that appeared to be a possible threat to their progression in the company that working for them was hell.
I could never understand their idea that they always wanted their superiors to see a perfect workplace with no problems anywhere within it. I have seen these people waste a couple of days getting staff to make sure that the workplace was perfect with not a speck of dust to be seen and in so doing neglecting the work which should be being done when a director or very senior manager was due to call. Vans have been hired to temporarily move potentially embarassing objects out of view of these important visitors. Staff have been cut to such a level that work and staff morale suffered to make their budget prerformance appear better. My own view on all this is that hiding the real situation never makes it likely that improvements come about. NTL is probably a little like this with the very top management not really being aware of the true situation of the company below their level and possibly not caring as long as their fat wage packets keep arriving. |

With radio, as in any broadcasting medium, the nature of the beast is the whole thing can change at the last minute - I could turn up for work one night and be told I'm not needed any more. A lot of people may object to those conditions but if this industry is what you want to get in to then it's what you put up with. Luckily my bosses are known for giving lots of chances so if things went down the pan I like to think I won't be out on my arse straight away.

Re: someone laughing at us
I think if you work in a big company, whether it's good or not depends on your line management.
The Uni where I work is quite large, but in general they are a good company to work for. My boss is brilliant. As long as I do my job thoroughly, I actually get a fair amount of freedom to do my own things with Uni facilities. I also got a month off recently because of my mum dying, and it was put down as compassionate leave (although I would be p**ed off if it was taken off my Holiday). This contrasts well with the previous company I worked for (a small Freight Forwarders). At the time I worked for them, my Grandfather was dying of cancer. He had a Hospital appointment at Guys which was just down the road. I offered to help my mum get him from London Bridge station to the hospital. I explained the situation to my Boss, asked for an extended lunchbreak to give me time, and was refused. I also know people there who have crap line managers, and think working for the Uni is terrible. |
